I Introduction

The Natural World, in its broadest sense, is a term that refers to the physical world and life in general It encompasses all life on earth, including humans However, it does not include human activities As stated above, the natural - includes not just life, but a host of other non-living physical entities These include the atmosphere, climate, weather, water and even abstract factors like the aesthetic beauty of nature Imagine a world where there are no trees, no blue skies, no birds, and no animals If this Earth we live in had indeed been a place like that, we would probably never have seen it, because we would not have existed at all Humans are very much a part of nature, even though we have apparently distanced ourselves from it Nature gives many benefits to humans From the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat, nature enhances our wellbeing and freely provides the essentials for our survival But today, human society is chasing modern developments, novelties of technology that make life easier and more comfortable Many people surround themselves with hundreds of unnecessary things that are harmless to the environment Environmental degradation affects not only the quality of life but also the health and longevity of people The natural world is full of colors, it has formed this beautiful earth And our presentation will take everyone to explore 3 world-famous natural wonders, thereby feeling the importance and offering solutions to preserve the natural world

II Natural wonders of the world

1 Ha Long Bay

a Ecosystem

Ha Long Bay, with its diverse ecosystems, is a priceless natural resource According

to scientists from the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, at the ecosystem level, Ha Long Bay can be divided into two major ecosystems: the tropical evergreen rainforest ecosystem and the marine and coastal ecosystem

Have you spotted the vibrant green patches adorning the limestone peaks? These are the hallmarks of Ha Long Bay's tropical evergreen rainforest ecosystem, a sanctuary for hundreds of plant species This diverse vegetation can be categorized into four distinct types: monsoon evergreen forests on limestone, shrub communities on dry limestone, mangrove forests, and the unique flora found within limestone caves Scientific studies have revealed a remarkable biodiversity within these rainforests, with 507 species, 351 genera, and 110 families of higher plants identified on the bay's islands, including a profusion of magnoliids, ferns, and mangroves The animal kingdom is equally diverse, with 66 species of amphibians and reptiles, 77 species of birds, and 22 species of mammals recorded

Gaze into the crystal-clear waters of the bay, and you'll discover a hidden world teeming with life This is the marine and coastal ecosystem, encompassing both wetlands and marine habitats Ha Long Bay is a sanctuary for thousands of marine creatures, most notably its vibrant coral reefs - a hallmark of the bay These highly productive ecosystems play a vital role in water purification and are concentrated in areas like Hang Trai, Cong Do, and Van Gio The coral reefs here typically form fringing reefs, with both an inner and outer reef flat Scientific studies have revealed a remarkable diversity of marine life, with 571 species of benthic animals, 419 species

Trang 7

of plankton, 181 species of coral, 156 species of fish, 139 species of seaweed, 5 species of seagrass, and 19 species of mangrove

Have you ever wondered about the tranquil pools nestled amidst the limestone karsts? These unique features, known as "áng" and "tùng", give rise to extraordinary ecosystems that are the hallmark of Ha Long Bay These hidden gems are home to a diverse range of shrubs and small trees, such as sea almond, mangrove, and soapberry, which have evolved to thrive in challenging environments The pools also support a variety of wildlife, including seabirds, reptiles, insects, and aquatic creatures like shrimp, crabs, and fish

All these numbers clearly demonstrate the rich biodiversity of Ha Long Bay, one of the planet's most precious natural treasures

b Climate

When it comes to climate, Ha Long Bay is typical of a tropical coastal climate It experiences two main distinct seasons: hot and moist summer with a rainy season and cold winter with a dry season Average temperatures range between 20 and 30 °C, providing a pleasant environment for visitors In the winter months, temperatures may occasionally be a bit lower The average annual rainfall of Ha Long is 1832 mm, which is unevenly distributed throughout the year

Ha Long weather changes month by month and each season has its distinct features The dry season in Ha Long Bay is a period with lower rainfall and favorable weather conditions for visitors This period lasts from November to March, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 °C The dry season brings sunny and clear days, perfect for enjoying Ha Long Bay's beautiful natural scenery Moreover, during the dry season, one can expect calm seas, ideal conditions for boat cruises, and exploring the surrounding islands and rock formations Additionally, temperatures are more comfortable, allowing visitors to enjoy beach activities and explore the fascinating caves and bays that Ha Long Bay offers This period also provides optimal conditions for experiencing the sunrise and sunset over this breathtaking landscape

The rainy season in Ha Long Bay occurs from May to October and brings higher rainfall and occasional stormy conditions During this period, higher temperatures can

be expected, ranging from 25 to 35 °C, depending on the month This season brings more intense green shades to the landscape but also higher humidity levels However, the rainy season can bring regular short-term showers and storms, making boat cruises

or visiting some areas in Ha Long Bay challenging On the other hand, it also brings refreshment to the tropical environment and helps maintain the landscape lush and fertile Some tourists may prefer the rainy season for its lower number of visitors and the opportunity to experience Ha Long Bay in a more authentic setting

While occasional brief rain showers can bring refreshment, most days offer sunny and clear weather Therefore, with this warm atmosphere and calm waters, Ha Long Bay is an ideal place for exploring on traditional wooden boats or embarking on adventurous trips among cliffs and caves

c Human impact

Human activities can have beneficial effects on the environment here One of the most significant positive impacts is the development of tourism The natural beauty and cultural heritage of the bay attract millions of visitors each year, boosting the local

Trang 8

economy and creating jobs for the community Tourism has also led to increased awareness of the bay's importance and the need to protect it Another positive impact

of human activity is the construction of infrastructure, such as roads, hotels and transportation These improvements make it easier for visitors to access the bay and enjoy its beauty In addition, the development of tourism has led to the creation of new businesses, such as restaurants, shops and tour operators, providing economic opportunities for the local community Furthermore, human interaction with Ha Long Bay also contributes to the preservation of the bay's cultural heritage The bay has a rich history and is home to many traditional fishing villages and communities Through tourism, visitors can learn about local cultures and traditions, helping to preserve them for future generations

However, the beauty of this iconic destination has been threatened by human activities One of alarming issues is pollution The influx of tourists has led to an increase in boat traffic, resulting in oil spills and wastewater discharge that contaminate the bay's waters Additionally, littering and improper waste management have contributed to pollution, harming marine life and degrading the overall ecosystem Overfishing is another pressing issue The demand for seafood has led to unsustainable fishing practices, depleting fish populations and disrupting the delicate marine food chain Moreover, the construction of hotels, resorts, and infrastructure has resulted in habitat destruction and erosion Deforestation in the surrounding areas has also contributed to sedimentation in the bay, affecting water clarity and the health of coral reefs These negative impacts pose a serious threat to Ha Long Bay's biodiversity and natural beauty, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable tourism practices and conservation efforts

2 Jeju Island

a Ecosystem

Jeju Island is South Korea's largest island Jeju Island was formed by the eruption of

an underwater volcano approximately 2 million years ago It contains a natural World Heritage Site, the Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes Jeju is a volcanic island, dominated by Hallasan: a volcano 1,950 metres high and the highest mountain in South Korea The island formed by volcanic eruptions approximately two million years ago, during the Pleistocene epoch The island consists chiefly of basalt and lava Jeju Island embraces four major ecosystems of biogeographic regions; alpine coniferous forest, temperate broadleaf forest, warm temperate evergreen lucidophyll forest, and temperate grass land The core area that is protected as a national park is located in the center of Jeju Island Many endangered plants and animals inhabit in Jeju Island 134 taxa of Korean endemic plants are distributed in Jeju Island 90 taxa among the 134 are Jeju endemic plants In particular, 28 taxa of Korea or Jeju endemic plants are distributed around the summit of Mt Hallasan These species need to be protected due to global warming.Among the animals, a total of 103 species inhabit in Jeju Island These include the leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis), damselfish (Chromis notata) and the Jeju horse, a horse breed native to Jeju Island Endangered species such as green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas japonica), black-faced spoonbill (Platalea minor) and steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) appear on the island as well.Jeju Island is the only place where all four Internationally Designated Areas occur

at the same location These include: Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes World

Trang 9

Heritage Site, Jeju Island Biosphere Reserve, Jeju Island UNESCO Global Geopark and 2 RAMSAR wetland sites: 1100 Altitude Wetland and Muljangori-Oreaum Wetland

b Climate

Jeju Island is known as the island of love, the fairyland of South Korea This island

is located in the humid subtropical climate, so the weather here is divided into four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter Jeju Island is cool all year round, with a stable average temperature This island is less affected by seasonal winds compared to other regions of South Korea The weather characteristics of each season will bring different travel experiences to visitors

First is spring, the temperature will range from about 8 to 18 celsius In spring, the island becomes vibrant with cherry blossoms blooming, creating a romantic scenery for this beautiful island Next is summer, from May to July, this is the best time to travel to Jeju Island The summer weather here is quite cool with the cool sea breeze and warm sunshine It is an ideal climate for sea-bathing and participating in beach activities and sports Third is autumn, with an average temperature ranging from 15 to

25 celsius The weather is mild with little rain, creating an island with a gentle autumn color This is the ideal time to explore the magnificent natural landscapes of the island Finally it is Winter, from November to January, the temperature becomes colder and sometimes there will be snowfall The northern part of the island tends to be colder in winter than the southern part due to the influence of continental seasonal winds Winter will bring a different experience to visitors when the island is covered in snow

In summary, the island has a mild climate all year round, creating cool and pleasant weather The mild climate is also a major reason why this island attracts a large number of tourists throughout the year I believe that no matter when you travel to Jeju Island, you will experience the magical beauty of this island

c Human Impacts

To get a beautiful island like paradise, people have also had a positive impact on Jeju Island Local people and the government have made efforts to preserve Jeju's unique cultural values and indigenous cultural activities These customs are not only preserved but also widely promoted to international tourists, contributing to the preservation of the island's unique cultural identity Besides, Jeju is one of the pioneers

in Korea in developing renewable energy The government has invested in wind farms and solar power projects to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and local people have participated in environmental protection projects, such as tree planting, forest protection, and beach cleaning campaigns This not only helps protect the environment but also contributes to combating climate change

But besides those positive impacts, there are still many negative impacts on this beautiful island Resorts, coastal infrastructure, and marine tourism activities such as scuba diving have polluted the water Waste from cruise ships and coastal restaurants affects the marine ecosystem To serve the large number of tourists, the government and businesses have built many resorts, restaurants, and hotels on the island This urbanization process disrupts the natural landscape, causing many areas of forests and natural land to disappear and reducing the number of native animals and plants, affecting the ecological balance In addition, Jeju's traditional fisheries, such as abalone and other seafood, have been overexploited for tourism purposes This has

Trang 10

severely depleted aquatic resources around the island and affected the recovery of marine species Activities such as diving and sightseeing have damaged coral reefs and underwater ecosystems Some coral reefs and marine life have been destroyed or polluted due to human activities

3 Amazon Rainforest

a Ecosystem

The Amazon rainforest, also called Amazon jungle or Amazonia, is a moist broadleaf tropical rainforest in the Amazon biome that covers most of the Amazon basin of South America The rainforest is home to over 40,000 plant species, many of which are not found anywhere else on the planet. The green leaf area of plants and trees

in the rainforest fluctuates by about 25% as a result of seasonal changes The green foliage spreads out during the dry season when the sun is at its peak and then shrinks during the cloudy humid season You’ll find enormous Kapok trees, which can grow

up to 200 feet tall, towering over the forest canopy Beneath them, smaller trees, shrubs, and vines like the strangler fig and bromeliads thrive The Amazon also supports numerous medicinal plants, some of which are used in modern medicine today, such as quinine, used to treat malaria The dense vegetation not only supports life but also helps regulate the Earth's climate

The Amazon Rainforest is known for its vast biodiversity, containing around 10% of the world’s known species One of the most famous animals is the jaguar, the largest predator in South America It’s a solitary and elusive creature, often found near rivers and streams Other mammals include sloths, which move incredibly slowly and spend most of their lives hanging upside down in the trees, and howler monkeys, known for their loud, resonant calls that can be heard miles away The Amazon’s rivers are home

to unique aquatic life as well, such as the pink river dolphin and the infamous piranhas In the air, you can see vibrant bird species like the macaw, with its brightly colored feathers, and the harpy eagle, one of the largest and most powerful eagles in the world There are also thousands of insect species, including butterflies, beetles, and

of course, mosquitoes

b Climate

The Amazon Rainforest, with its hot and humid climate, is a year-round tropical destination Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F), accompanied by high humidity levels around 80-90% The temperature difference between day and night, between seasons of the year is not too large It rains every day, often suddenly and accumulates temperature on the ground The region experiences a wet season from December to May, marked by heavy rainfall and swollen rivers, while the dry season, from June to November, sees less rain, though showers remain common Due to heavy rainfall and high temperatures, the air humidity in the Amazon forest is always very high, creating a layer of moist air that covers the forest However,

In recent years, climate change is causing major changes to the Amazon climate, including prolonged droughts, severe wildfires, affecting the balance of the ecosystem There is usually very little wind here, so the air in the Amazon is usually very quiet, very suitable for those who need to relax and immerse themselves in nature Visitors to the Amazon can enjoy a range of activities that discover its incredible biodiversity Wildlife watching is one of the most popular attractions, offering the chance to spot exotic creatures like monkeys, sloths, and colorful birds Boat tours along the Amazon
