UNIT 7: TELEVISION Period 59- Lesson 5: Skills 1

I OBJECTIVES:

1 Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students can:

- Extend vocabularies and phrases related to the topic “Television”

- Read for general and specific information about a TV guide

- Talk about their favorite programs

2 Character qualities: Ss will be more aware of spending time watching TV, and

choose the best programmes for themselves

3 Competencies: Ss will be able to

- read and answer the questions, read and complete the information, act out in front of the class

- work in group, independently, pair work

II TEACHING AIDS

1 Teacher: Textbooks, computer accessed to the Internet, projector

2 Students: Textbooks, coloured chalk

III PROCEDURE

1 Checking: (3’)

- Write the new words

- Talk about two famous TV programmes for children again

2 New lesson:

1.Warm-up

* Aim: To introduce the topic of reading

- T asks Ss to look at the pictures and answer the questions.

1/ What are the pictures about?

2/ What channel is it?

3/ What time are these programmes on?

- Students answer the questions

- Ss might not answer question 3, so Teacher explains and lead in the Game

Kim’s Game

- Ask Ss to look at the table in 30 seconds and try to remember it in details

8.00 Wildlife: Cuc Phuong

9.00 Comedy: The Fox Teacher

10.30 Sports: The Pig Race

11.00 Game Show: Children are

Always Right 12.15 Science: The Dolphins

- Then complete the table again without opening the textbooks

2 Pre- stage

* Aim: - To prepare students with vocabulary related to the TV guide

- To lead in the reading skill

1 Pre teach vocabulary

+ wildlife (n): động vật hoang dã

+ join(v): tham gia, tham dự

+ science(n): khoa học

+ natural(adj): tự nhiên

+ compete(v): cạnh tranh

- Teacher uses different techniques to teach vocab (pictures, situation, realia)

- Repeat in chorus and individually

- Copy all the words

* Checking vocab: <what and where>

2/ The Fox Teacher is a game show

3/ We can watch the cute pigs compete in the most exciting races in Sports programme 4/ Children try to answer interesting questions about pets in “Children are Always Right”

Teacher asks Ss to read the statements carefully and predict whether they are True or False

* Aims: - To develop reading skill for specific information

- To help students understand activate their knowledge of the topic.

Have Ss read the table carefully and check the results

- Have Ss share their answers and compare before having them discuss as a class

- Then ask Ss to read the description carefully and decide whether the statements are True or False Encourage Ss to show evidence to support their answers Set a time limit

Have students read the information about the five people and choose the best programme for each Underline the key words showing what each person likes to support their answers

Speaking Task 3

* Aims: To allow Ss to talk about what Ss have done in Reading 2.

5 Work in group Share your table in 2 with your group and see if they agree with you

- A: I think the best programme for Phong is the game show Children are Always

- B: I agree He wants to know more about pets.

Have Ss work in groups and share the ideas with the other groups

T encourages other students to say if they agree/disagree with the answer

Speaking Task 4

* Aims: To teach Ss how to talk about their favourite TV programmes

6 Work in groups Tell your group about your favourite TV programme You talk should include:

Eg: My favorite programme is……….It’s on……… It’s about… I like it because it…

- Ask Ss to read the instructions carefully and allow them some time to prepare their answers

- Tell Ss that the suggested structure can help them organize their ideas

- Have Ss share their answers in groups before calling some of them to present their answers to the class

5 Consolidation

* Aims: To consolidate what students have learnt in the lesson.

- Present the favorite programme give reasons

Teacher asks students to talk about what they have learnt in the lesson

6 Homework

* Aim: To revise the knowledge that students have gained in this lesson.

- Teacher asks students to write down their opinion about a school in their books

- Talk about your favorite TV programme

- Learn the new words and structures.

- Prepare the lesson: Unit 7 - Skills 2
