devices as separate entities with insulation-piercing clamping units
NOTE In the text of this standard, connecting devices with insulation piercing clamping units are referred to
as IPCDs (insulation-piercing connecting devices)
NOTE 1 The removal of the sheath of the cable, if necessary, is not considered as a previous stripping
NOTE 2 Examples of IPCDs are given in Figure 103

5 General notes on tests
This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:
5.3 Replacement:
The tests are carried out in the sequence listed for each set in Annex AA
5.4 Replacement:
The necessary number of new samples to be submitted to the tests is divided into sets as
detailed in annex AA and this standard is met if all tests are satisfied

8 Marking
This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:
Additional subclauses:
8.101 The following shall be indicated on the smallest package unit:
• if the IPCD is non-reusable or non-removable (7.101) (absence of marking indicates the IPCD is reusable);
• the connection and disconnection procedure, if necessary (for example, screw torque values if higher than stated in Table 102);
• the combinations of cross-sectional areas and types of conductors according to the classification of 7.103, 7.104 and 7.105 for which the IPCD is designed (method of connection according to 7.102 if necessary)
The manufacturer shall describe the types of cable and of insulation suitable for his system
if the contact pressure is being transmitted through this conductor insulation.
8.102 IPCDs classified according to 7.103 shall be marked as follows:
• terminals declared for solid conductors with the letter(s) “s” or “sol”;
• terminals declared for rigid conductors with the letter “r”;
• terminals declared for flexible conductors with the letter “f”

10 Connection of conductors
This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:
Additional subclauses:
10.101 An IPCD shall accept one or more unprepared conductors of the same or of different
nominal cross-sectional areas, rigid (solid or stranded) and flexible, as declared by the
manufacturer
10.102 The relationship between the rated connecting capacity of clamping units and
connectable conductors as well as data on the diameters of conductors are given in
Table 101

NOTE 2 Diameters of the largest rigid and flexible conductors are based on Table 1 of
IEC 60228 and IEC 60344 Text deleted
a Dimensions for Class 5 flexible conductors only, according to IEC 60228A
10.103 The disconnection of a conductor from a reusable or non-reusable IPCD shall require
an operation other than a pull on the conductor only It shall be necessary to take deliberate
action to disconnect it by hand or with a suitable tool
Compliance is checked by the tests of 10.106 and 10.107
10.104 An IPCD shall be adequately locked against unintended loosening
Compliance is checked by inspection and by the tests of 10.106 and 10.107
Trang 1010.105 If an IPCD uses screws for wire connection, the following test shall be performed
before each test:
Screws of reusable IPCDs are tightened and loosened 5 times by means of an appropriate tool applying the torque as stated in the corresponding column of Table 102 A new conductor end is used each time the screw is loosened and subsequently re-tightened
Screws of non-reusable and non-removable IPCDs are tightened once with the torque as stated in the appropriate column of Table 102
Higher values of torque may be used if so stated by the manufacturer of the IPCD, when the relevant information is provided

Column II applies to screws which can be tightened by means of a screwdriver with a blade wider than the diameter of the screw
Column III applies to screws which are tightened by means other than a screwdriver
Column IV applies to screws and nuts, other than nuts of mantle clamping units, which are tightened
by means other than a screwdriver
Column V applies to nuts of mantle clamping units, which are tightened by means other than a screwdriver.

During the test a reusable IPCD shall not be damaged so as to impair its further use, for
example the breakage of screws or damage to the head slots, threads, washers, or stirrups
The shape of the blade of the test screwdriver shall suit the head of the screw to be tested
The screws shall be tightened in one smooth and continuous application of the torque
10.106 New IPCDs are fitted with new single-core conductors of the type and of the
minimum and the maximum cross-sectional areas as declared by the manufacturer and are
tested in the apparatus shown in Figure 101
The test shall be carried out on 6 samples: 3 with the smallest conductor cross-sectional area
and 3 with the largest conductor cross-sectional area
The length of the test conductor shall be 75 mm longer than the height H specified in Table 103
The test conductor is connected according to the manufacturer’s classification (7.102), in the
clamping unit
Clamping screws, if any, are tightened with the torque according to 10.105
Each conductor is subjected to the following test
The end of the conductor is passed through an appropriate sized bushing in a platen
positioned at a height H below the equipment as given in Table 103 The bushing is
positioned in a horizontal plane, such that its centre line describes a circle of 75 mm diameter,
concentric with the centre of the clamping unit in the horizontal plane The platen is then
rotated at a rate of approximately (10 ± 2) r/min
The distance between the mouth of the clamping unit and the upper surface of the bushing
shall be within 15 mm of the height in Table 103 The bushing may be lubricated to prevent
binding, twisting or rotation of the insulated conductor A mass, as specified in Table 103, is
suspended from the end of the conductor The duration of the test is 15 min
During the test, the conductor shall neither slip out of the clamping unit nor break near the
clamping unit
Reusable and non-reusable IPCDs shall not, during this test, damage the conductor in such a
way as to render it unfit for further use
ICPDs which are designed for use with multicore cables or cords only shall not be subjected
to this test

10.107 IPCDs are subjected to the pull-out test according to
• 10.107.1 for IPCDs designed for single-core conductors;
• 10.107.2 for IPCDs designed for multicore cables or cords
10.107.1 Pull-out test on IPCDs designed for single-core conductors
After the test of 10.106, the same samples are subjected to a pull, in one smooth and
continuous application, for 1 min in the axis of the tapping conductor according to the value of
Table 104
During the test the conductor shall not slip out of the IPCD
Table 104 – Relationship between pull force and cross-sectional area
10.107.2 Pull-out test on IPCDs designed for multi-core conductors
The pull-out test on IPCDs designed for multicore cables or cords is carried out according
to 10.107.1 except that the pull force is applied to the entire multicore cable or cord instead of
to each individual core
