version of EN 60730-2-3:1992 Automatic electrical controls for household and

similar use — Part 2-3: Particular requirements for thermal protectors for ballasts for tubular fluorescent lamps, including amendment A1:1998 and Corrigendum

March 2001, published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) It was derived by CENELEC from IEC 60730-2-3:1990, including amendment 1:1995, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)

CENELEC corrigendum March 2001 changes the latest date of withdrawal of conflicting national standards in the EN foreword and the foreword to

amendment A1

The CENELEC common modifications have been implemented at the appropriate places in the text The start and finish of each common modification is indicated

in the text by tags Ž

Parts of the original IEC text that have been modified by CENELEC have been quoted in National annex NA

The start and finish of text introduced or altered by amendment is indicated in the text by tags !" Tags indicating changes to IEC text carry the number if the IEC amendment For example, text altered by IEC amendment 1 is indicated

by !"

The foreword of EN 60730-2-3 makes reference to the “date of withdrawal”, dow,

of the relevant national standard In this case the relevant national standard is

BS 3955 which will cease to be applicable to thermal protectors within the scope

of BS EN 60730-2-3 on 1 January 1997 Certification and marks will not be awarded after this date with respect to BS 3955 However such certification and marks already awarded may continue to apply to production

until 1 January 2001 BS 3955 will be progressively amended to delete specific controls at the dates of withdrawal agreed

This British Standard is to be read in conjunction with BS EN 60730-1:1992

General requirements, which it supplements or modifies The many references to

Part 1 should be read as references to BS EN 60730-1, which is the English language version of EN 60730-1 which was derived from IEC

Publication 730-1:1986

EN 60730-2-3:1992

1 Scope

This clause of Part 1 is replaced as follows:

1.1 This standard applies to the evaluation of thermal protectors for ballasts for tubular fluorescent lamps.

!This part applies to thermal protectors using NTC or PTC thermistors, additional requirements for

which are contained in Annex J."

Requirements concerning the testing of the combination of ballast and thermal protector are given in ŽEN 60920.

1.1.1 This standard applies to the inherent safety, to the operating values, operating times, and operating

sequences where such are associated with equipment safety and to the testing of thermal protectors used

to protect ballasts for tubular lamps from overheating

This standard applies to thermal protectors for ballasts within the scope of ŽEN 60920

Thermal protectors covered by this standard may be suitable for ballasts for other discharge lamps.

Throughout this standard the word “protector” means “self-resetting thermal ballast protector”.

1.1.2 This standard is not applicable to other means used to protect ballasts.

1.1.3 This standard does not apply to a manual device for opening the circuit.

1.2 This standard applies to protectors for use with ballasts for use on a.c supplies up to #690 V$

at 50 Hz or 60 Hz

1.3 This standard does not take into account the response value of an automatic action of a control, if such

a response value is dependent upon the method of mounting the control in the equipment Where a

response value is of significant purpose for the protection of the user, or surroundings, the value defined in the appropriate household equipment standard or as determined by the manufacturer shall apply

2 Definitions

This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:

2.2.16 Thermal motor protector

Additional definition:

2.2.16.101 Thermal ballast protector

Thermal ballast protector denotes a self-resetting automatic control integrated or incorporated with a

ballast for tubular fluorescent lamps and is specifically designed to protect the ballast against overheating under any condition of use The control carries ballast current and is sensitive to ballast temperature and current

3 General requirement

This clause of Part 1 is applicable

4 General notes on tests

This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:

4.2 Samples required

Replacement:

4.2.1 One sample is used for the tests in this standard except a separate sample is used for the test of 17.1.2

and three separate samples are used for the test of 17.4.

5 Rating

This clause of Part 1 is applicable

Trang 10

EN 60730-2-3:1992

6 Classification

This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:

6.3 According to their purpose

Additional subclause:

6.3.101 — thermal ballast protector.

6.4 According to features of automatic action

6.4.1 — not applicable.

Additional subclause:

6.4.101 Protectors are further classified as providing micro-interruption on operation as follows:

— self-resetting (Type 2.C)

6.6 and 6.7 Not applicable.

6.10 to 6.12 inclusive Not applicable.

6.14 Not applicable.

6.16 Not applicable.

7 Information

This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:

quantity, or minimum and/or maximum cycling rates for a

4, 15, 17 X

which are either necessary for correction action, or which can be

used for test purposes

Trang 11

EN 60730-2-3:1992

Modification to the notes of Table 7.2:

Note 4

The values 2 and 2 are for test purposes only, and may alternatively be declared as a maximum cycling rate.

For the purpose of this standard, the rate of change of temperature shall be expressed in K/h.

Additional note:

Note 101

The rated current of the thermal ballast protector is chosen in accordance with the rated current of the ballast.

8 Protection against electric shock

This clause of Part 1 is applicable

9 Provision for protective earthing

This clause of Part 1 is applicable

10 Terminals and terminations

This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:

10.1 Not applicable.

10.2 Addition:

For the purpose of this standard, internal wiring conductors are considered as integrated conductors.

11 Constructional requirements

This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:

11.3.4 Setting by the manufacturer

Addition:

Sealing compounds, lock nuts and the like are deemed adequate for this purpose.

12 Moisture and dust resistance

This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:

12.2 Protection against humid conditions

13 Electric strength and insulation resistance

This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows:

Addition:

The suitability of the test in clause 13 may depend upon the method of mounting the protector in the equipment If the results of the tests in clause 13 are not likely to be representative of the results obtained when the protector is used with a ballast, then these tests

would normally be carried out on the assembled thermally protected ballast.

14 Heating

This clause of Part 1 is not applicable

Successful completion of the tests of clause 17 of this standard are deemed to be sufficient.

2 = maximum rising rate (for Type 2 actions only)

2 = maximum falling rate (for Type2 actions only)
