with the rules of this Association, this Stand rd has

AECMA, prior to its presentation to CEN

This European Stand rd shal be g iv en the status of

a national stand rd, either b publ cation of an

identical text or b endor ement, at the latest b

0 Introduction

For the purpose of stand rdization of metal c

materials, AECMA ha orig inal y b sed the

org anization of this stand rdization on a sy stem

which prov ided strong interln s betwe n a

material stand rd refer ing to EN25 0 and its

sup orting stand rds

Since these ln s did not alow the p rtial use of the

sup orting stand rds, the folowing amendments

hav e be n introduced to ensure that:

— strong ly interl n ed stand rds are l mited to

those strictly neces ary to ensure coherency ;

— other stand rds ma be either used, or

replaced b stand rds of another orig in, at the

pur haser’s dis retion

The b sic chang e in these ln s is that the

dimensional stand rds and desig nation stand rd

for semi finished products, where a plca le, hav e

be n dis ociated fom the material stand rd

Additionaly , product qualfication procedures are

being introduced

Pending the up ating of the stand rds, these two

org anizations exist in p ralel:

— the orig inal one des ribed b EN25 0;

— the new one des ribed in this stand rd

( se Annex A and Annex B)

To ena le prog res iv e up ating of the stand rds,an

intermediate procedure is to be folowed, as

des ribed inAnnex C, pending ful introduction of

the new org anization

This stand rd specifies the g eneral org anization of

metal ic material stand rds, their ln s with other

ty pes of EN stand rds and their use, for aerosp ce

a plcations

3 Definitions

For the purposes of this stand rd, the fol owing

definitions a ply :

semi-finished products

g eneric term used to indicate that the material as

sup l ed do s not neces ariy hav e any relation to

the ex ct form, dimensions or condition in which

that material is used as a final component

this term ma refer to one of the fol owing ty pes:

— wroug ht products ( e.g b r, she t, sections) or

cast products ( e.g rod, amorphous brazing foi

characteriz d b their form within a rang e of

stand rdiz d dimensions;

— products of non-stand rdiz d form and

dimensions produced b the same metalurg ical

tech ique ( e.g forg ing stock, remelting stock);

— blanks man factured f om the products stated

a ov e, of non-stand rdiz d form and dimension

( e.g forg ing s, casting s)

4 Description of the types ofEN

standards

There are fiv e lev els of EN stand rds, n mbered

f om0 to4 ( se Annex A) For the intermediate

procedure, se Annex C

4.1 General standard ( evel0)

4.2 Basic standards ( evel1)

They define the wording and/ or specify conv entional

rules that prov ide the b sis of u der tanding

betwe n the writer and the user of stand rds

specify ing rules ( se 4.3) and semi finished product

definition documents ( se 4.4)

They are the folowing :

They specify the specific rules for the drafting and

presentation of the semi finished product definition

shal ov er ide any other diferent requirements of

any other referenced lev el3 stand rd ( se Annex B)

5.2.2 The material stand rd shal refer to the

relev ant tech ical specification
