4.2 Requirements for all types of slurry tankers

4.2.1 Manual controls

4.2.1.1 Manual control of the distributing operation

It shall be possible to start and stop the distributing operation from the driving position of the tractor or propelled machine

Trang 8

Preferably, it shall be possible to actuate the manual control for the compressor or the pump from the driving position of the tractor or self-propelled machine

Otherwise one manual control, accessible from the ground, shall be located on each side of the tank at a minimum horizontal distance of 550 mm from the central axis of PTO drive shaft, measured perpendicular to this axis (see example in figure 1)

The functions linked to the different positions of the manual control shall be clearly identified

Trang 10

4.2.2 Tank

4.2.2.1 Openings

The tank shall have sufficiently sized and placed opening(s) to allow effective cleaning of all of the tank interior

or to eliminate any clogging without the necessity for personnel to enter the tank

Openings in the upper part of the tank greater than 400 mm in diameter, or if they are rectangular of more than 400 mm x 300 mm, shall be provided with a grating which can only be removed by the use of tools The apertures in the grating shall not exceed these dimensions

4.2.2.2 Covers for openings

Covers on the upper part of the tank shall be designed, or fitted with a device, to prevent their unintentional closing

Where a cover is hydraulically controlled, it shall be possible to actuate the manual control from the driving position of the tractor or self-propelled machine and the hydraulic hose coupling which connects to the tractor shall be clearly identified

4.2.2.3 Partitions

Tanks having a capacity equal to or greater than 6 000 l shall be equipped with anti-surge partition(s) according to table 1 The partition(s) shall be perpendicular to the direction of movement of the machine and each of them shall have a surface area at least equal to 2/3 of the tank cross-section (see figure 2 for examples)

Table 1

Capacity C of the tank

6 000 ≤ C < 10 000 1

10 000 ≤ C < 15 000 2

Trang 11

1 - Example of circular section

The complete range of movement of the filling arm shall be visible to the operator when in the driving position

4.2.3 Spreading or injecting boom

Trang 12

Booms that can be manually folded/unfolded shall be fitted with two handles located at a distance of at least

300 mm from the nearest articulation These handles may be integral parts of the boom, provided they are suitably designed and clearly identified

In the case of powered operation, the control for the swivelling shall be of the hold-to-run type and the manual control shall be located outside the swivelling zone

The folding/unfolding speed shall not exceed 0,5 m/s when measured at the end of the boom

A device shall be provided to prevent the boom from moving when it is folded in the transport position If the locking device is a hydraulic valve not directly fitted to the cylinder, the bursting pressure of the circuit’s components from the valve to the cylinder shall be at least four times its allowable pressure

The locking device and the boom folding/unfolding actions shall be controlled by separate systems

4.2.3.2 Adjustment of the height of the boom

The manual force necessary to adjust the height of the boom shall not exceed 250 N

Where height adjustment is by a winch, this winch shall be self-arresting and capable of withstanding at least

a load equal to 2 times the weight of the boom

The winch shall be operable from the ground

In the case of powered height adjustment, it shall be possible to actuate the manual control from the driving position and the control shall be of the hold-to-run type To ensure the protection of the operator against crushing and shearing hazards related to a failure of the control circuit, the machine shall be fitted with a device which limits the maximum downward speed of the boom to 10 mm/s

The boom shall be lockable in position for servicing and maintenance purposes

The injecting devices shall be in contact with the ground before it is possible to operate the control for putting the injecting boom in floating position or in position with weight transfer

4.2.3.3 Emptying of the boom

It shall be possible to isolate the contents of the tank from the boom in order that the boom can be emptied in the low position for transport, maintenance or removal and storage

4.2.3.4 Stability of the boom when parked and for manual handling

The boom shall be designed to be stable when parked according to the information in the instruction handbook on firm ground with an inclination of at least 8,5° in all directions

Where transport rollers are fitted to the boom for ease of manual handling when detached from the tanker, the boom and the location of these rollers shall be designed so that the boom is stable and will not overturn during such handling

This requirement shall be checked as follows: Place the boom, which has been parked in accordance with the information in the instruction handbook, on a horizontal and even plane Then push it at a speed of 1 m/s against a fixed rectangular obstacle 50 mm high with a length at least equal to the distance between the external transport rollers and located on the ground at a right angle to the direction of movement of the boom The boom shall remain upright

Trang 13

4.2.4 Means of access

When an opening or openings are provided on the upper part of the tank, or if for any reason access is required by the operator to the upper part of the tank, suitable means of access shall be provided

Parts of the spreading or injecting boom shall not be used as handholds related to the means of access

4.3 Requirements for mechanically powered slurry tankers

Mechanically powered slurry tankers shall be fitted with an overflow preventing an overpressure which shall have:

 a minimum diameter of 150 mm; and

 be located or arranged in such a way that liquids and gases shall not be ejected in the direction of the operator’s working position

4.4 Requirements for pneumatically powered slurry tankers

4.4.1 Covers for openings

For pneumatically powered slurry tankers, the unrestricted opening of the covers shall be prevented by a device that allows any pressure to be vented before the retaining mechanism is fully released

4.4.2 Pressure gauge

Pneumatically powered slurry tankers shall be provided with a pressure gauge allowing the working pressure

to be read from the driving position of the tractor or self-propelled machine This pressure gauge shall be designed or located so that it can neither be rendered ineffective by the contents of the tank nor shut off by a stop valve between the pressure gauge and the tank

The allowable pressure as defined by EN 764 shall be indicated on the pressure gauge, e.g with a red line The pressure gauge shall be located or protected so that accidental damage is minimised

4.4.3 Safety valve

Pneumatically powered slurry tankers shall be equipped with a safety valve which shall be:

 designed and adjusted to prevent the allowable pressure as defined by EN 764 being exceeded by more than 10 %;

 protected against any unauthorised modification of its adjustment and be such that it cannot be put out of action by the contents of the tank;

 designed so that, if the slurry can come into contact with the valve, the minimum diameter of the passage section shall be 150 mm;

 located or arranged in such a way that liquids and gases shall not be ejected in the direction of the operator's working position;

 protected or located so that accidental damage is minimised

Trang 14

5 Verification of the safety requirements and/or measures

Dimensions, where given, shall be verified by measurements Controls shall be verified by a functional test and positional measurements

6 Information for use

6.1 Instruction handbook

Comprehensive instructions and information on all aspects of maintenance and the safe use of the machine shall be provided in the instruction handbook It shall comply with 5.5 of EN 292-2:1991

In particular, the following points shall be emphasized:

a) that there are toxic and inflammable gases produced in the tank and it is dangerous to handle a naked flame near the equipment and the instructions on how to avoid such hazards;

b) that the safety equipment (particularly the safety valve) is not to be improperly adjusted or made ineffective;

c) the procedures to be followed in order to remove any stones or any other foreign matter from inside the tank without entering into it;

d) that it is forbidden to enter the tank without breathing equipment or taking some other equivalent precaution;

e) that the engine of the tractor or of the machine shall be stopped before any intervention on the slurry tanker;

f) the need to use a PTO drive shaft equipped with a guard in good condition;

g) the need to ensure, before moving the slurry tanker that the braking system, if any, is connected and that

l) the functions and the operating instructions for all the manual controls;

m) the risks of using the slurry tanker for transporting or for spreading products other than slurry, water, sewage sludge and especially those which may damage the pump or the tank or overload it (lime, liquid fertilizers );

n) the need to keep the tanker clean enough to ensure all marking information remains legible;
