Fading of some dyes on c rtain man-made f ibr s, p rticularly on carpet , was o se ved t o be q it e

seve e u de such con itions The develo ment of this t es method ena led dye man factur rs, f ibr

prod c rs an t extie man factur rs t o sele t dye /f ibr combinations w hich we e r sis ant t o fading

It is conside ed that the s an ard of fading is complet ed w hen a faded t es -control fa ric (4.2.2) is

o se ved t o ha e a contras eq al t o grade 3-4 on the in gr y scale

4.5 Nitr og en ox ide

WARNING — Nitrog en o ide in high concentrations are injurious to he lth and sho ld be

ex austed to the atmosphere or trapped in water and neutralzed with a 1 % (m/ m) solutio of

so ium h dro ide or so ium hy rog en carbo ate The maximum co centratio in a work are

sho ld not ex ce d 9,57 mg/ m

7.1 Suspend thetes spe imens an pie e of tes -contr ol fa ric (4.2.1 or 4.2.2) in the ex posure chambe

(4.1)which should pr od c a cycle of fade within 5 h to 1 h of ex posure

7.2 Examine the tes -contr ol fa ric pe iodicaly u ti it colour corr esp n s to that of the s andard of

fading This constitutes one cycle A n alte nativemethod of dete mining one cycle of fade is to te minate

the ex posur e cycle when the tes -contr ol fa ric ex hibits a colour chang e of (1 ,5 ± 1,5)CIELA Bu its ( e

ISO 1 5-J0 )

7.3 Remo e those tes spe imens which ex hibit a notic a le colour chang e at the en of one cycle One

cycle wil g eneraly produc a measurable colour chang e in sampleswhich are sensitive to nitrog en ox ide

7.4 Suspend a fresh pie e of tes -contr ol fa ric (4.2.1 or 4.2.2) for each ad itional cycle of fade u ti the

r eq ir ed n mbe of cycles has be n completed

scale for as es ing chang e in colour (4.4)
