On the back of solid growth in 2018,

Vietnam’s economy looks set to

continue its upward growth trajectory

in 2019

A stable economic landscape has contributed to

an increase in FDI inflows into the country,

especially as more companies shift parts of their

supply chain to Vietnam in response to the

US-China trade tensions These investments have

added over US$13 billion to Vietnam’s economy.

Trade will continue to feature as a key pillar for

Vietnam’s growth, further bolstered by Parliament’s

ratification of the Comprehensive and Progressive

Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP11), a

multilateral trade agreement which includes

Vietnam and two of its top three FDI investors, Singapore and Japan, among eight other countries.

With GDP growth exceeding forecasts for the first three quarters of 2018, the strong potential of Vietnam’s economy is reflected by the government’s projection of between 6.6% to 6.8%

in GDP growth for 2019.

Vietnam continues to enjoy one of the lowest unemployment rates in the Asia Pacific region, holding steady at 2.2% in 2018, having dipped to 2.19% in the second quarter of 2018 As the country continues its transition to a high-tech economy, a slight increase in unemployment rate

of 0.1 – 0.2% is projected for 2019 to account for further workforce transformation.

Vietnam continues to enjoy one of the lowest unemployment rates in the Asia Pacific region.
