Listening and Writing

I OBJECTIVES:By the end of this lesson, students will be able to gain the following things :

1 Knowledge:

- Listen for general and specific information about school activities

- Write a paragraph about outdoor activities at one’s school

+ Vocabulary: Use the words related to the topic A visit to a school ( Schools, school facilities,

and school activities )

- pronounce the sounds /tʃ/ and /dʒ/correctly;

+ Grammar: - Use the prepositions of time and place;

2 Competence:Students will be able to learn how to improve two skills

- Develop communication skills and cultural awareness

- Be cooperative and supportive in pair work and teamwork

- Actively join in class activities

3 Qualities:

- To educate the love for school, school activities

- Ss have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pairwork, cooperative learning

- Develop self-study skills

II TEACHING AIDS:

- Teacher: Grade 7 text book, laptop, projector / TV/ pictures and cards

- Students : Text books, studying equipment…

III PROCEDURE:

Notes: In each activity, each step will be represented as following:

* Deliver the task.

* Implement the task.

* Discuss.

* Give comments or feedback.

1 WARM UP & INTRODUCTION ( 5’) Aim: To activate Ss’ knowledge of the topic of the listening text.

* Content: Having some warm-up activities to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to inspire Ss to warm up to the new lesson

* Outcome: Having a chance to speak English and focus on the new lesson

* Organisation : Teacher’s instructions….

* Teacher divides the class into 2 teams and asks

members of each team to look at the projector

and answer the questions

2 PRESENTATION/ NEW LESSON (10’)

ACTIVITY 1: Pre-listening

Aim: To help Ss have the ideas of some outdoor activities.

* Content: Discussing the questions

* Outcome: Ss discuss and brainstorm key words / phrases about food and drink

* Organisation : Teacher’s instructions….

1 Work in pairs Look at the pictures and

discuss the following questions.

*) Pre- teach vocabulary:

- Teacher uses different techniques to teach

vocabulary (situation, realia, translation .) if

have

+ Ask Ss to look at the pictures and name the

outdoor activities in the pictures (e.g clean the

streets in Picture a and grow vegetables in the

school garden in Picture b) and think of the

reasons why they do these activities (e.g to

make the environment clean, to give vegetables

to the school canteen)

- Have Ss ask and answer the questions in pairs

Then encourage some pairs to act out the

dialogues in front of the class

- T checks their answers

1 Work in pairs Look at the pictures and discuss the following questions.

* Listen to the teacher’s instructions carefully and do the tasks

ACTIVITY 2 :

Aim: To help Ss listen for general information about school outdoor activities.

* Content: Listen to an interview and circle the appropriate option (A, B, or C)

* Outcome: Ss Listen and circle the appropriate option (A, B, or C) correctly

* Organisation :

2 Listen to an interview between a reporter

and two students Circle the appropriate

option (A, B, or C) to complete each sentence

- Ask Ss to read the instructions of the activity to

identify how to do the task

Have Ss read the sentences and guess the option

(A, B, or C) that can be used to complete the

sentences

- Play the recording once or twice, if necessary,

for Ss to listen and circle the appropriate option

to complete each sentence

- Have Ss compare the answers in pairs or

groups Then call on some Ss to give the

answers

- Check the answers as a class and correct

mistakes where necessary

- Check and confirm the correct answers

Aim: To help Ss listen for specific information about school outdoor activities.

* Content: Listen to the interview again and answer the questions,

- Ask Ss to read the questions and underline the

key phrases (e.g what they encourage their

classmates to do, the reporter thinks about their

activities, when and where they grow

pairs or groups

- Have a few pairs ask and answer the questions

Trang: I'm a member of a club called Go Green Club And we do lots of activities.

Reporter: What activities, for example?

Trang: Well, our members clean streets on Saturday afternoons We also encourage our classmates

to recycle glass, cans, and paper.

Reporter: Wonderful! I'm sure your activities help us protect our environment What about you, Phong? What outdoor activities do you do?

Phong: Well I'm a member of the Green Garden Club We grow vegetables in the school garden after school Our school canteen uses the vegetables for our lunches.

ACTIVITY 4: Writing

Aim: To help Ss ask and answer questions about their school's outdoor activities.

* Content: Ask and answer about school’s outdoor activities.

* Outcome : Ss can answer about school’s outdoor activities freely and correctly.

* Organisation :

4 Work in pairs Ask and answer questions

about your school’s outdoor activities

- Ask Ss to read the questions individually Draw

their attention to three pieces of information

(e.g the outdoor activities they take part in, the

outdoor activity they like best, the reason why

they like doing it, etc.).

- Ask Ss to work in pairs asking and answering

the questions and taking notes

- Call on one or two Ss to write the notes on the

ACTIVITY 5:

Aim: To help Ss write a paragraph of about 70 words about their school's outdoor

* Outcome: Ss can write a paragraph about an outdoor activity at their own school

* Organisation :

5 Write a paragraph of about 70 words about

an outdoor activity at your school You can

use the information in 4

- Allow Ss time to write a paragraph (about 70

words) about their school's outdoor activities,

using the suggested ideas / information in 4

- When they finish, ask some Ss to read the

paragraph to the class

- If time allows, call on one student to write his /

her answer on the board The class comments

* Post writing

- Ask one or two Ss to write a paragraph on the

board Other Ss and T comment on the

paragraph

- T collects some to correct at home

- Ask Ss to revise the paragraph at home based

on the comments given and submit them at the

next lesson

* Teacher may ask students to share their
