Trang 1The Colorado Hospitality Scholarship Program is inclusive of two different scholarship
programs in 2018 Each scholarship is funded through the state’s leading trade association
and designed to help support students pursuing degrees in the hospitality and tourism
industry at accredited, four-year universities, or colleges
This year we will offer $66,000 in combined in scholarships Students who meet the criteria
for each of these scholarships are invited to apply
Hospitality Scholarships Available
MDLC Scholarship: Funded through the Metro Denver Lodging Council (MDLC), a council
of the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association, which address issues that pertain specifically to
metro Denver area hotels
MDLC Emerging Leader Scholarship: In addition to the scholarships above, the MDLC
will also be giving out one $5,000 scholarship to an emerging leader in Denver’s hospitality
industry The qualifications and requirements are the same as the MDLC scholarships, but in
addition the candidate must be in or working toward a supervisory position in a Denver hotel
and must submit a letter of recommendation from their manager
Karl Mehlmann Scholarship: Funded through the American Hotel & Lodging Education
Foundation (AH&LEF) and administered through the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association
(CHLA)
Background information: This scholarship is named after Karl W Mehlmann who served as an
outstanding leader in the Colorado hospitality industry for over 40 years and was an active
figure in furthering education within the lodging industry
Karl Mehlmann scholarship funding available for distribution this year: $9,000

1 Must be enrolled in a university or college in the Denver metropolitan area
2 Must be majoring in a hospitality management or culinary arts program
3 Must currently be a freshman (having completed a full semester), sophomore or junior to apply
4 Seniors may apply if planning to immediately continue to graduate school and studying in a hospitality graduate program (at a school in in the Denver metropolitan area) with proof of
acceptance
5 Must be enrolled as a full-time student
6 Must have and maintain a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale

3 Must be working in or advancing toward holding a supervisory position in a Denver area hotel and must submit a letter of recommendation from your manager
4 Must currently be a freshman (having completed a full semester), sophomore or junior to
apply
5 Seniors may apply if planning to immediately continue to graduate school and studying in a hospitality graduate program (at a school in in the Denver metropolitan area) with proof of acceptance
6 Must be enrolled as a full-time student
7 Must have and maintain a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale
Karl Mehlmann Scholarship
1 Must be enrolled in an AH&LEF affiliated and accredited four-year (4) university or college (see enclosed list on following page) and be majoring in a hospitality management program
2 Must currently be a freshman (having completed a full semester), sophomore or junior to apply
3 Seniors may apply if planning to immediately continue to graduate school and studying in a hospitality graduate program (through an AH&LEF affiliated school) with proof of acceptance
4 Must carry a minimum workload of 12 credit hours per quarter or semester
5 Must have and maintain a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5 on a 4-point scale
6 Must be a citizen of the United States
