About Our CPD Programme

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for School Based

Employees

Stockton-on-Tees Local Authority and Stockton Teaching Alliance are committed to facilitating

first-rate professional development opportunities that make an impact on the quality of teaching

and learning in schools The CPD programme for school based employees reflects identified areas

of priority and expertise

The programme and course search facility, for the EIS courses, is available to everyone on-line at

www.stocktoninformationdirectory.org

New courses may be added on-line after the booklet is published and these will be available to

view via the on-line course search facility

Charges

The cost for each course is identified within the course details on each page

How to apply - EIS Courses

Staff must apply for all courses using the online application form at

www.stocktoninformationdirectory.org

There should be no assumption that staff can automatically attend

The headteacher/line manager must approve all applications

Apply early to be sure of a place

All bookings will be acknowledged in writing, however, if you do not receive confirmation of your

place on the course please ring the telephone number of the course contact

How to pay - EIS Courses

Payment for Stockton maintained schools will be via internal journal transfer

Payment from external bodies including academies will be via invoice

Audience: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT LEADS/ EHWB CHAMPIONS

Aim:

This will be aimed at the leadership tier who are responsible for the improvement of health &

well-being within their schools The aim is to enhance self-awareness, knowledge, skills and behaviours

so that Personal Development/ EHWB leads are best placed to influence the resilience and

well-being of those children and families that they support

The focus for the practical based learning activity and improvement will be through the family

hubs as this provides a focal point to bring together other core elements of service for physical

and emotional health needs as well as wider family and carer support Partnership working will be

strengthened

Early Years Networks 2019/2020

EYFS Assessment Moderation Partnerships (AMPs)

Assessment and Moderation Partnership (AMP) meetings are an essential meeting for all early

years practitioners to support accurate early years assessment and to support and strengthen

partnerships between schools and settings

AMP meetings are held termly across four areas of Stockton

The aims of the meeting are:

• To establish a good understanding of the statutory requirements for the completion of

summative assessments (including the EYFS profile)

• To develop an understanding of how a variety of assessments can be used to inform planning

and track children’s progress

• To develop an effective environment in which to discuss accurate baseline assessments

• To share key developments and government messages with regard to statutory assessment

s Early Years Matters

Early Years Matters Meetings are held termly for all Early Years Leaders across Stockton They offer the opportunity for EY Leaders to network and share good practice The meetings also enable practitioners to keep up to date with key diary dates, national and local updates, Ofsted news and to hear information from a guest speaker

Early Years Partnership Meetings

Creating more effective partnerships

Partnership meetings have been developed to ensure more effective communication and

transitions and appeal to a wider audience

Partnership meetings will be held at EDC@SSFC in the autumn and spring terms and will

be facilitated by members of the Early Years and Primary Team Eight partnership groups of

schools have been created, and settings and other representatives are invited to attend the

relevant group/s To ensure the aims of the partnership groups are met, it is an expectation that

representatives from all schools and settings attend at least one meeting annually

Annual Meetings Cycle

Partnership meetings will be held in the autumn and spring terms In the summer it is the

responsibility of schools/settings to work together to ensure effective transitions, focusing on the

needs of the individual child

Health, SEN, Early Help Assessment and Children’s Centre representatives

Aims

• More effective communication between all Early Years schools and settings (including

childminders), resulting in sharing of information between Health, Early Years and Education

sectors

• Successful transitions through the effective implementation of the Moving Forward document

• To raise profile of 2 year progress check resulting with the information within this being shared

with appropriate partners (to include parents)

The aim of all of the subject networks is to support the continued focus on raising standards in key

subjects across the Borough The networks facilitate this aim by:

• Offering opportunities for schools within Stockton who have demonstrated excellent outcomes

to share practice and collaborate with others, for example sharing:

• schemes of learning for KS3 and the new GCSE specifications

• models of delivery and implementation for the new GCSEs

• assessment without levels

• useful resources

• Offering opportunities for colleagues to work together cross-phase to promote more effective

transition between KS2 and 3

• Raising awareness of the implications for middle leaders in EBacc subjects of regional and

national educational priorities

• Supporting middle leaders to understand the implications of the most recent Ofsted framework

for inspection of EBacc subjects

• Providing targeted CPD for example:

• cost effective opportunities to access GCSE training from exam boards locally

• cost effective opportunities to access A Level training from exam boards locally

• delivering the curriculum at KS3

For all subjects in the secondary curriculum – if colleagues express an interest in attending a

national course, contact us We will canvass support for this training across Stockton and, where

appropriate, across the Tees Valley If there is enough interest, we will commission the training to

What are the benefits?

To raise awareness of how to recognise the characteristics of dyslexia and how to make adjustments

in the classroom to support pupils’ achievement

Attendees will:

• gain a secure knowledge of dyslexia

• be able to identify pupils displaying dyslexic tendencies and know how to adapt support to enable

curriculum access and progress

• understand the key features of the dyslexia friendly classroom and have strategies to adapt the

learning environment to support all learners including those displaying dyslexic tendencies

What are the benefits?

This session will summarise the government’s careers strategy and focus upon the Gatsby career guidance benchmarks We will also look at how Ofsted may inspect CEIAG in school The final part

of the session will signpost local support / networks / resources to help you deliver effective CEIAG.Objectives:

• To understand how Ofsted might inspect careers guidance in school

• To share national and local careers strategies

• To signpost local support and resources in delivering effective CEAIG

Who is it for?

Early Years Practitioners in Schools and Settings

What are the benefits?

Stockton Education Improvement service are licensed to deliver the ICAN ‘Early Talk’ programme

Early Talk is ICAN’s highly successful training programme aimed at the early year’s workforce in

partnership with parents to support the communication needs of children from birth to age 5 The

Early Talk 0-5 training programme has been independently evaluated as enhancing the learning

environment for all children, with a long-term positive impact on staff and practice

As part of these modules participants will receive a toolkit of resources and three course module

booklets

It is important that participants attend all four training sessions

Objectives:

By the end of this 4 module course, Practitioners will have opportunities to:

• enhance knowledge and explore strategies that can be used use to support communication and

language development right from the start of a child’s life;

• receive a range of resources – including one to help them carry out the EYFS progress check for

2–3 year olds;

• explore ways of working with parents and to be aware of adult behaviours that affect children’s

communication development, practitioner behaviours that affect parents’ support of their child’s

communication development and practitioner techniques;

• develop knowledge of typical communication and language development, developing

practitioners’ strategies and interaction styles to maximise their opportunities to develop every

child’s skills in communication and language

Aim:

Under the ‘Education Inspection Framework’ from September 2019, reading will be a ‘deep dive’

in any school with primary aged pupils This half-day course, aimed particularly at leaders with

responsibility for reading, will share the methodology inspectors will use – and will support you with

self-evaluation and forward planning
