The Exodus Experience
This course provides a general introduction to the Bible and three
foundational books (Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers) which give
context to the origin and foundation of the People of God
Through the lens of the historical-critical method, students will
analyze the formation of the traditions that make up the Old
Testament and its structure in order to identify key themes that
give unity and cohesion to these books This course will focus on
covenant relationship with God via salvation history as recorded
in the Book of Exodus.

Instructor Profile
Kevin Pease, MTS, serves as director for IPS Scripture School at Loyola University Chicago Prior to his hire in 2018, Kevin taught for five years in the Religious Studies Department of Mercy High School, San Francisco, an all-girls private Catholic school maintained by the Sisters of Mercy Courses taught included “Foundations of Religious Studies,” “Hebrew & Christian Scriptures,” and “Social Justice” He credits his experience with his students and the Sisters of Mercy for instilling in him a passion for teaching Previously, Kevin earned a master’s degree in
Theological Studies, concentration Bible, from the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University His final synthesis paper focused on Trinitarian relationship, a topic for which he remains engaged and in which roots his theological perspective today He feels blessed to have finally returned to his alma mater, where he graduated
2011 with bachelors' degrees in Secondary Education and English / Minors' in Theatre and Catholic Studies A Loyola Rambler for life!
• Work with the biblical text, in a learning-community setting, learning to use footnotes, cross-references, and various translations of the Bible
• Explain the biblical concepts of liberation, covenant, the people of God, and the law
• Identify Moses and Miriam as ancestors in faith
• Explain the process by which the Book of Exodus (and other biblical books) took shape, and begin to distinguish the non-Priestly authorial sources from the Priestly authorial sources
