be distinguish in the new formula The first are the words: per istam

sanc-tam unction, et suam piissimam

misericordiam – through this holy anoint-ing (may the Lord) in his infinite mercy ( ) This phrase has been moved from the old Roman formula dating back to its roots in the tenth century

It has an appealing character In official statements of the Church it can

be seen in the Decree for the Armenians, Council of Florence.118 The

sec-ond part begins with the words: adiuvet te Dominus gratia Spiritus Sancti

– may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit This text undoubtedly inspired by the teachings of the Council of Trent, where the role of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of the Anointing says twice, explaining the doctrine of the establishment and the effects of the sacrament.119 Here the Council pointed out the nature of res Gratiae The Tridentine Fathers say it should be this way: res etenim HAEC Spiritus

Sancti gratia est, cuius unctio (here the differences are calculated as

con-sequences of the sacramental anointing) This same sense, and even some

of the wording Trent repeats in the Introduction to number 6“.120 The next

part begins with the words: ut a peccatis liberatum – the Lord who frees

you from sin This phrase was taken from the letter of St James 5:15b „If

he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven.“

Finally, in the fourth part of the formula are the words: te salvet atque

propitius allevet – May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise

you up These words too have their origin in James 5:15 Here it refers to

two main terms: salvet (σώσει) and allevet (ἐγερεῖ) „The choice of these two

words is a balanced emphasis on both the sense of the anointing, as well

as the manifestation of man‘s place in the sacramental dimension Two extremes are avoided here: too much stress on the grace of forgiveness

as a primary sacramental effect (which was typical of the Tridentine rite),

on the other hand, there is the temptation to wait for an extraordinary,

of further work Coetus 23 found several versions of the sacramental formula: 1 Per

istam unctionem, et suam piissimam misericordiam Dominus ungat te gratia Spiritus Sancti Et ab omni potestate peccati liberatum te benignus salvet atque alleviet; 2 Per istam sanctam unctionem et virtutem Spiritus Sancti alleviat te Dominus atque, ab omni potestate mali liberatum, salvet et confirmet in vitam aeternam; 3 Ungo te in nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti ut oratio fidei salvet te et alleviet te Dominus;

4 Ungo te in nomine Domini Ut ab omni potestate peccati liberatum te salvet atque

alleviet cf J STEFAŃSKI, Prace , s 105 – 108.
