Members of Safety Committee
Ideally, team members should:
Desire and commitment to be on the team;
have skills and knowledge for emergencies or are eager to learn them;
are on site every normal working day during normal working hours;
have the emotional, physical, and problem-solving abilities to focus during a crisis;
Follow instructions and work well as a team
Training:
Emergency Management related training for all team members
Director of Safety & Security must review training manual annually with team
members/alternates
Meetings:
Minimum of two school emergency team meetings per year
Assess campus safety:
Review policies and procedures
Recommend updates and revisions
Review Safety Plan:
Recommend solutions for campus safety issues
Share information and areas of concern
Conduct tabletop exercises and drills

Randomly select four (4) buildings per year with different scenarios, led by Safety &
Security Director
Emergency Responders and outside evaluators will participate
Support Team:
To assist Safety & Security Director with implementation of designated plans
Basic Duties and Responsibilities:
Search and clear common areas and assist teachers during:
Ideally these teams will consist of staff members who:
Desire and commitment to be on the team
have no sole responsibility for classroom/students
have skills and knowledge to handle emergencies
have abilities to solve problems that may arise during an emergency
can work well as a team
Annual Emergency Team “To-Do” List:
1 Create the Support Team and complete and update the roster
2 Train all campus staff in the emergency procedures, including emergency shut-offs for electrical, natural gas, fire alarms, etc
3 Hold and assess required fire and tornado drills, as per UTTC/Safety Committee Policy
4 Hold a minimum of one emergency drill per semester
5 Prepare Campus Emergency Kit; determine placement
6 Prepare Classroom Emergency Kits
7 Create Teacher Partners and complete the roster
8 Communicate with your Safe Sites each year
9 Evaluate and revise the plan each year and after each actual emergency

Trang 24NEWS MEDIA RELATIONS
United Tribes Technical College intends to provide access to public information to the news media, while considering the responsibilities of the College During a school or College
emergency, the primary role of the media should be to provide parents and the public with prompt, accurate, and relevant information
Spokespersons:
Depending upon the severity of the situation, the main spokespersons for the news media
during a campus emergency shall be the President of UTTC, Vice President of Student and Campus Services, the College Attorney and/or the Director of Community
Relations or their designees No pertinent information will be given to media that has not been cleared through the Emergency Responders Public Information Officers in order to preserve the accuracy of the information and not jeopardize potential future investigations
It is also the College’s intent that if the incident is of a magnitude to draw regional or national news media to Bismarck, preference may be given to local news affiliates
Students and other residents are instructed to turn to local news media for
information
Media Guidelines:
1 UTTC employees and students will be instructed not to grant news media interviews
unless approved by the President’s office
2 When requests for student interviews are granted, interviews will be completed with minimal loss of instruction time or interruption in the learning environment
3 The College will assign a location for media that is convenient for them and meets the requirements of both news media and school personnel
4 Media access to other areas of school buildings and grounds requires the approval of the President or Director of Community Relations
5 Questions concerning the position of the College on legal, moral, or ethical issues will be deferred to the President
The Community Relations Director will assist by providing media guidelines, facts
sheets about the school and/or College, media contact lists, news releases, prepared
statements, news conferences, media briefing rooms, etc
