BAR CHART

There are 2 kinds of bar chart: dynamic chart (with time change) and static chart (without time change)

A DYNAMIC CHART

Do the same as Line graphs with increase or decrease trends

(Draw the line to connect the bar so that it becomes a line)

B STATIC CHART

There is no increase or decrease trends and without change of time It is used to compare the numbers (first

biggest, second biggest…smallest) It usually has 2 different compared items

Example 1

2 compared items

- 1st item: Girls age 5-10 vs Boys age 5-10

- 2nd item: 5 different preferred pleasure activities

- 1st item: doctors vs other workers

- 2nd item: 7 different countries

FOUR – PARAGRAPH REPORT

1 INTRODUCTION

Analyze the question carefully and try to find out What (Topic), 2 Compared Items (What/ How many),

When and Where and Measurement Unit

[1] What = Topic (the number of students/ the comparison of food consumption…)

INTRO [2] 2 compared items (what/ how many) (in three different countries/ in the United States…)

[3] When and Where (in the UK in 1980)

[4] Unit of measurement (optional) [units are measured in thousand]

[1] Topic: Paraphrase the topic

synonyms (1)

Paraphrasing

rearrange the order of key words by changing forms of the words or using different

grammar structures (2)

(2) Rearrange the key information by different grammar structures or word forms

+ change “parts of speech” : V N Adj Adv

+ use “passive voice”: be + V3/-ed

+ use “relative clause”: who/which/ that + V

2 OVERVIEW

- Select the key features

- Examine the two compared items

To show contrast, identify the highest and smallest figures or use comparative

The (line) graph compares and contrasts data on the differences in the amount (number)

3 BODY PARAGRAPH (Body 1 & Body 2)

There are 2 common ways to form groups of body paragraphs

+ from highest to lowest numbers (Body 1: highest; Body 2: lowest) + similarity and differences (Body 1: similarity; Body 2: differences)
