• Cách thành lập:

Động từ thì hiện tại tiếp diễn được chia như sau:

Dạng khẳng định: S + am/ is/ are + V-ing

Dạng phủ định: S + am/ is/ are + not + V-ing

Dạng nghi vấn: Am/ is/ are + S + V-ing?

Trả lời: Yes, S + am / is / are

No, S + am / is / are + not

CHỨC NĂNG:

1 Diễn đạt một thói quen ( a habit)

Ex: I usually go to bed at 11 p.m

2 Diễn đạt một lịch trình có sẵn ( a schedule)

Ex: The plane takes off at 3 p.m this afternoon

3 Sử dụng trong câu điều kiện loại 1:

Một số động từ không có dạng V-ing

Những động từ sau đây chỉ dùng ở dạng Đơn: • state: be, cost, fit, mean, suit

Example: We are on holiday

• possession(sở hữu): belong, have

Example: Minh has a cat

• senses (giác quan): feel, hear, see, smell, taste, touch

Example: He feels the cold

• feelings (cảm giác): hate, hope, like, love, prefer, regret, want, wish

Example: Jane loves pizza

• brain work ( công việc của não): believe, know, think (nghĩ về), understand

Example: I believe you

Ví dụ:

I am watching TV now (Tôi đang xem TV)

Is he visiting his parents next weekend? (anh ấy có thăm bố mẹ vào cuối tuần không?)

He is always losing his books (Anh ta luôn luôn để mất sách)

She is gradually improving her pronunciation (Cô ấy dần dần cải thiện được khả năng phát

âm)

CHÚ Ý:

Những động từ chỉ cảm giác, nhận thức, sở thích, quan điểm không bao giờ được chia ở thì hiện tại tiếp diễn:feel (cảm thấy), hear (nghe), see (hiểu), smell (có mùi), taste (có vị), believe (tin rằng), think (nghĩ rằng), feel (cảm thấy), like (thích), love (yêu), hate (ghét), have (có)

**Spelling: ( Cách thêm “ing” sau động từ)

- Động từ tận cùng bằng “e” (e câm) thì bỏ e trước khi thêm “ing”

- Động từ 1 âm tiết (hoặc 2 âm tiết trở lên mà có âm nhấn ở cuối) tận cùng bằng 1 phụ âm, có 1 nguyên âm đi trước thì ta nhân đôi phụ âm tận cùng trước khi thêm “ing”

Nhưng: meet - meeting ( không gấp đôi t vì có 2 NÂ e đi trước)

- Động từ tận cùng bằng “ie” thì đổi thành “y” rồi thêm “ing”

- Động từ tận cùng bằng “l” mà trước nó là 1 nguyên âm đơn thì ta cũng nhân đôi

“l” rồi thêm “ing”

Ex: travel - travelling, gravel - gravelling (rải sỏi)
