The Soneplex SCU is the ideal management solution for
HiCap services It allows operators the ability to gracefully
migrate from today’s legacy management processes to
centralized operation support systems (OSS) using X.25 or
IP networks The SCU provides local and remote
equip-ment and facilities manageequip-ment, and supports VT 100 craft
interface, TL1 over X.25, TL1 over TCP/IP, and optional
SNMP management
ADC’s Soneplex system is the lowest total cost solution for
carriers to grow their T1-based business services Focused
on providing flexible, end-to-end solutions, the Soneplex
system saves carriers money on T1-based services over
copper or fiber, using HDSL, HDSL2, traditional T1
repeater or optical DS2 technology in a single platform
From operations, maintenance, provisioning and
high-speed backbone connections to central office and cabling,
the Soneplex system is designed to take costs out of today’s
T1 delivery approach, adding profit to your bottom line

Description
HiCap operations and management are supported by a variety of operations interfaces The ADC Soneplex SCU management solution is the only product on the market today that supports a full complement of operations interfaces for today’s and tomorrow’s management of HiCap networks
Network management is becoming increasingly important as competition grows in the local loop Efficient network management yields both immediate cost reductions and lower long-term operations expenses ADC offers a graceful migration from legacy operations systems to intelligent telecommunications management systems
Operators with a large embedded base traditionally support TL1 over X.25 to their legacy operations systems The SCU fully supports this feature with six switched or permanent virtual channels
The Soneplex management solution includes the SCU plug-in module which operates in either the Soneplex Broadband chassis or Loop Extender chassis The standalone SCU supports all TL1 and craft interfaces Optionally the Soneplex SCU EMS provides an SNMP GUI for local or remote management either alone or incorporated into existing
HP Openview network applications
The Shelf Controller Unit’s state-of-the-art Vx Works operating system and object oriented design supports software downloads and ensures long life for future upgrades and network enhancements
Operators are finding significant savings in moving management traffic from expensive X.25 links and onto more cost effective data networks The SCU provides TL1 commands over 10Base-T TCP/IP allowing operators to choose whether management traffic goes over the X.25 network or an IP network
New operators can easily manage co-located equipment with the remote management provided by the SCU and Soneplex SCU Element Management Software (EMS) The Soneplex SCU EMS can be used as a standalone SNMP GUI or launched with HP Openview™

The Soneplex EMS adds the following benefits:
• Operates locally or remotely as a stand alone SNMP GUI or integrated with other management systems such as HP Openview
• Collects and updates data automatically: Installs quickly and begins discovering modules in the Soneplex chassis immediately Provides automatic updates when new devices are added and continually monitors equipment and facilities
• Displays real-time information critical to effective network management Simple modifications of threshold menus and toolbars allow the management staff to focus
on critical events that pertain to their individual responsibilities
• Presents information in easy-to-view formats Network information is displayed graphically, allowing the user to easily navigate through the system hierarchy
• Supports distributed management and multiple operator consoles Also functions as a collection station, continually forwarding information to an OSS
It provides management and control of the full spectrum of Soneplex products:
• Soneplex Broadband chassis and the Loop Extender chassis
• DS1 Loop Extender
• DS3 Multiplexer
• T1 HDSL with one or two repeaters
• T1 HDSL2
• T1 Quad Loop Extender (QLX)
• N x 64 kbps E1 HDSL
• E1 Quad Loop Extender (EQLX)
• T1 Intelligent Office Repeater (RLXIOR)
• ODS2
• TL1 over TCP/IP 10Base-T
• TL1 and craft over X.25 (with up to six permanent or switched VC’s)
• SNMP over 10Base-T
• Serial craft interface
