1 The present simple
a The uses:
It expresses a fact which is always true, or true for a long time
Eg: The Sun rises in the East
It expresses a habit: we can use it with Adv of frequency (always, usually, often,
sometimes, hardly, never) the position of adv of frequency:
1- after “to be” Eg: it is often hot in summer
2- before normal verbs Eg: I usually go to school by bus
3- between normal verbs and auxiliary verbs Eg: he doesn’t often know it
It expresses ability of someone.
Eg: He speaks English fluently
It expresses timetable, time of train, car, bus…
Eg: The concert begins at 7 o’clock

Spelling of the 3rd
person singular 1- most verbs add “’s” in the 3rdperson singular Eg: wear wears 2- if verb ends in “sh, ch, o th, s”, add “es” Eg: finish finishes

Pronunciation
1- after a vowel sound or a voiced consonant, we pronounce the final “s” /z/
2- after a voiceless consonant /t/, /p/, /k/, we pronounce the final “s” /s/
3- when the verbs end in “ges, ches, sses, shes ”, we pronounce the fina l “s” /iz/
