Transport Repeater Products
Transport repeater products are designed to regenerate digital signals when there are long distances between DSX points These repeaters regenerate weakened signals to their proper T1 (1.544 Mbps) or E1 (2.048 Mbps) signal strength for transport over distances that exceed Telcordia (Bellcore) standards
Maintenance Repeater Products
Maintenance repeater products are designed to support testing, monitoring, and maintenance activities These repeaters not only regenerate a weakened signal, but also bridge or create test signals for non-intrusive patching and equipment troubleshooting

ADC intraoffice repeaters are designed to regenerate signals in central office applications where network equipment is located on various floors or buildings If cross-connect or patching distances exceed 85 feet (25.9 m) or DSX bays and network elements are more than 655 feet (200 m) apart, an intraoffice repeater can ensure proper T1/E1 signal strength
Two types of intraoffice repeaters are available:
The high density dual intraoffice repeater supports up to 56 repeater cards per
chassis or 896 cards per 9-foot bay, maximizing valuable network space It is
designed to comply with NEBS Level 3 standards ensuring high safety
and reliability The repeater cards utilize -48 Vdc power and
feature an integrated power supply and individual fusing
Designed to simplify maintenance and installation, each
repeater card features two Bantam monitor jacks that permit
non-intrusive test access to the signal Each card also features
two independent multi-position line build-out switches that
allow installers to precisely position the repeater bay in the
network, selecting an output range up to 655 feet
(200 m) and a signal input range of 0 to -13 dB For
enhanced flexibility, the repeater cards feature dual
regenerators that enable its use as one two-way
repeater or two one-way repeaters
The intraoffice repeater supports up to 28 cards per
chassis or 448 dual repeater cards per 9-foot bay
The repeater cards utilize -48 Vdc power and feature
an integrated power supply and fusing
Dual and single regenerators are available Three

The short loop repeater offers service providers a compact alternative to conventional repeaters on shorter T1 spans where either one or no line repeaters are required The bi-directional repeater regenerates the receive-side signal to the proper T1 rate (1.544 Mbps) and has a passive path on the transmit side A modular system, service providers can add repeater cards to an unloaded chassis over time enabling expansion at the pace of network growth For added flexibility, output equalizer switches allow the repeater bay to be positioned up to 655 feet (200 m) from the DSX or network element Each short loop repeater card features
an integrated power supply, which can be sourced from either a 60 mA simplex current or the -48 Vdc office battery and is individually fused for quick service restoration Surge protection on transmit and receive pairs protects the repeater from high voltage transients caused by lighting strikes or contact with power lines

Bridging office repeaters regenerate output signals from a DSX-1 monitor jack The repeaters are typically used for in-service patching from the monitor jacks to spare facilities or maintenance lines Technicians can use bridging office repeaters to patch faulty T1/E1 lines to spare lines, place QRSS/PRTP
signals onto maintenance lines, place signals on maintenance lines that are
pow-ered but not in service, connect to performance monitoring equipment,
and perform other common maintenance functions
The bridging office repeaters compensate for a flat loss input signal level
from -15 to -25 dB They regenerate and equalize signals to proper T1/E1
signal strength up to 220 feet (67 m) from the repeater
The single bridging office repeater features a single regenerator, while the
dual bridging office repeater features two regenerators which can be used in
one two-way or two one-way applications Both styles of repeater cards are
individually fused with an LED that indicates fuse failure

Test Signal Cards and Chassis
The QRSS and PRTP cards provide a controlled, error-free test signal simulating a T1/E1 carrier
line during troubleshooting The cards can provide a test signal for suspect spans
and can supply a remote office with a signal source for Bit Error Rate
testing
The cards generate a basic quasi-random word (QRW) signal, simulating
the energy spectrum of a T1/E1 carrier line The output level of the
QRSS module meets Telcordia (Bellcore) CB 119 specifications, and the
PRTP module meets CCITT G.703 specifications
Test signal cards accept -48 Vdc office battery input power through a
screw terminal block at the rear of the mounting shelf Up to two

The clock synchronization chassis allows high impedance bridging of two T1 lines without affecting signal traffic It bridges two in-service T1 lines and ensures that bit and frame levels are synchronized between the clocks of transmitting and receiving equipment This synchronization is required to achieve a low Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) slip rate, as needed for digital signal transmission
For reliable clock synchronization, the chassis supports redundant equipment including two T1 lines, two sets of bridging office repeaters, and two -48 Vdc power supplies Should one T1 line fail, the other will
be available to support the clock timing supply
