How to Create a Good Speech or Presentation:
Choose a subject that is important to you and vital to your listeners
Select a topic that interests you, that you know something about, and that you
can bring to life for your audience
Decide on a clear purpose What would you like your audience to do as a
result of your speech?
Involve your listeners by asking for their response and relating your topic
directly to them
Use testimony, facts, examples, and stories to add substance to your speech
Organize your ideas into a logical design
Use clear, colorful, concrete language
Practice your speech until you can present it smoothly
Types of Speeches and Their Function:
Informative: share ideas and knowledge, extend understanding, shape
perceptions, clarify options
Persuasive: influence attitudes or behavior, urge commitment,
encourage change
Ceremonial: celebrate events and occasions, recognize heroes and
heroines, renew values, revitalize group commitment (speeches that offer
tribute, accept rewards, introduce other speakers, inspire listeners, or
celebrate achievements)
