CHAPTER III METHOD STATEMENT FOR OTHER ITEMS

In this part Contractor shall present the proposed construction of MSE wall, at location as showing in drawing

The construction material used for MSE wall such as concrete, steel reinforcement, Geotextole Filter Fabric (non-woven) shall comply with the requirements of Technical Specification and approved by the Engineer prior delivering to the site

Plant preparation:

Delivering the construction material and construction equipment to the site, bulldozing construction plant to the design level

Foundation excavation and construction:

The foundation shall be excavated and trimmed to design level by excavator and manuals

The location is a stone, drill hole and mine rock out, then use excavator combined manual excavated

The water pumper may be used for drainage during excavating

Placing concrete foundation

Upon completion of MSE wall excavation and Engineer’s approval, the centerline of MSE wall shall be set and the stakes shall be installed in compliance with the dimensions of MSE wall basement as indicated in the drawing by using Theodelite and steel tape

Install formwork and place concrete foundation

Install panel and high adherence reinforcement strip.

Panel and high adherence reinforcement strip will be install by machinery associated with manually

Place geo-textitle

Install geotextile fabric in the longest continuous practical length, free from tension, stress, folds, wrinkles and creases

Install geotextile in accordance with specification or procedures recommended

by The manufacturer

Overlap joints a minimum of 0.5m for transversal joints and a minimum 0.25m for Longitudinal joints

Install pins or site over-locking at each joint to make sure of overlapping geotextile Fabric

Remove or replace geotextile fabric improperly installed or damaged as directed by The Engineer

Backfill by selected granular

II Sodding and planting

1.1 Sods, and Shrubs for Planting

Sod for planting shall be healthy living stems (stolons or rhizomes) with attached roots or perennial turf-forming grass, from approved sources in the locality of the work in optimal condition The presence of objectionable, weeds, or other detrimental material will be cause for rejection

1.2 Trees and Shrubs for Planting

Trees and shrubs for planting shall comply with the requirements of TCXDVN 104: 2007

Shrubs for planting shall be healthy living stems in an optimal condition with a healthy attached root system and from approved sources

Shrubs shall be of species suitable for the particular local environment and for planting in the median or the verge of the highway

Where shrubs are planted in pots the pots shall be of a size suitable for the plant at maturity and of a type approved by the Engineer

Trees for planting in the verge shall be of species suitable for the particular environment as detailed on the drawings or as approved by the Engineer They shall be healthy living plants and in an optimal condition with a healthy attached root system and from approved sources

Supports and protection for trees shall be of wood or bamboo, or as required

by the drawings Binding or ties shall be made of natural hemp or other natural fiber material approved by the Engineer

1.3 Fertilizers

Fertilizer shall be standard commercial fertilizer supplied separately or in mixtures containing percentages of total nitrogen, available phosphoric acid, and water-soluble potash based on the soil composition and shall meet Vietnamese and applicable local laws They shall be furnished in standard containers with name, weight, and guaranteed analysis of contents clearly marked thereon

No cyanamide compounds or hydrated lime shall be permitted in mixed fertilizers

The Bidder shall have his proposed sod planting beds tested by an acceptable agricultural laboratory for available nutrients Based on results of tests, the type, contents and application rates of fertilizer and the need and application rates for lime shall be established by the laboratory

Fertilizers may be supplied in one of the following forms:

• A dry, free flowing fertilizer suitable for application by a common fertilizer spreader;

• A finely-ground fertilizer soluble in water, suitable for application by power sprayers; or

• A granular or pellet form suitable for application by blower equipment

1.4 Lime

If the use of lime is required, it shall be ground limestone containing not less than 85% of total carbonates, and shall be ground to such fineness that 90% shall pass through a 250 àm mesh sieve and 50% shall pass through a 150 àm mesh sieve Dolomitic lime or a high magnesium lime shall contain at least 10% of magnesium oxide All liming materials shall conform to the requirements of ASTM C602-07

2.1 Sodding and grassing.

Preparation:

Sodding on slope shall be proceeded following the placement of the concrete block as designed

In the area where sodding to be carried out shall be free from rock, roots and other unexpected materials

30cm top soil for sodding shall be soft and fine material

Sodding shall be forwarded in the area where wet and soft enough is In the event that the natural moisture does not meet the requirements, an addition of water by spraying shall be taken within 24 hours of cutting

Surfacing

Following the completion of the placement, the surface shall be free from unexpected soil, organic matters, not be broken and be covered with fine soil for treatment that is watered latterly

Fertilizer and lime for grassing and sodding

Fertilizer shall conform to trade fertilizer standards of a mixture of nitrogen, phosphoric acid and dissolved potassium fertilizer, dosing 120g/m2

Lime for agriculture shall be those grinded comprising of 85% carbonate at least and shall be grinded in moderation that 90% shall pass the sieve No20 and 30% pass the sieve 100, dosing 120g/m2

Fertilizer and lime at the calculated dosing shall be applied by hands uniformly after application of the top soil These materials shall be mixed with soil and penetrate to 5 -10cm

Sod including soil shall have a good cover of living or growing grass and contained the living roots and plant Prior to commencement of this work, Bidder shall obtained the approval of the Engineer on the material to be used Before sodding, sods shall be cut and kept the height of 70-75mm

Sods shall be placed on the slope starting from the horizontal lower edge Sods shall be transplanted so well that there is not gaps between them as designed

Sods shall be placed with suitable wooden sticks to ensure that below part of sods have been in the soften soil

In the areas where water may flow over the sodding areas, ends of sods shall

be directed to contiguous areas that shall be covered soil and carefully compacted Ends of sods at the limit areas shall be directed to the center of sodding area

Watering

Water shall be free from oil, acid, alkali, salt or other deleterious matters that shall inhibit the development of sods

Bidder shall give a regular water by spraying to sods during the construction until the sods get approved by the Engineer

2.2 Construction of tree borders and planting

Preparation

Marking and locating operations shall be carried out at site

Trees that have been planted shall be maintained in good development subject

to the requirements by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development This practice shall be done by professional staffs in the superintendent by professional planters

Prior to planting, Bidder shall submit samples of trees and its accessories the Engineer for his approval

The top soil shall comply Vietnamese Standards, Industry Standards or Standard BS 3882 Thickness of the top soil layer shall not exceed 25mm at maximum and be free from grass seeds, high grass, stubs and roots and other unexpected materials

Bidder shall provide trees that meet the requirements and satisfy the Engineer Trees after having been planted shall be supported by wooden round bars having one end pointed and thickness of 75-100mm For the high trees, visible length of the bars should be as high as half of the height of trees at minimum, invisible length that in the ground shall be 900mm long For the others, the

visible one shall be as high as the height of trees and invisible one is similar to the above

Fertilizer to be used shall be inorganic and organic indicated in the Specifications and shall obtain the approval of the Engineer Dosing shall conform

to the instructions by the manufacturer and Specifications

Construction of tree borders

Carring out foundation excavation after surveying

Placing and compacting lean concrete B7, 5 (M100) 10cm thickness

Constructing the tree borders with bricks cement mortar M100 in compliance with drawing

Tree planting.

Trees that are taken from the approved cultivate seedling to the site shall be planted carefully at designed places to minimize the roots cutting and fenced Watering soil shall not be applicable before taking trees up Tree roots shall be paper covered and trees shall be tilted for hauling to the site after having been taken up Handing by holding trunk shall not be applied

Upon hauling trees from cultivate seedling to the site, special attention shall

be those: roots and soil ball shall be kept wet and kept off the sun and dry wind till they planted Trees shall be planted at the site without baskets or pots that had maintained in the seedling

Before trees are planted, an addition shall be put to the top soil as necessary as follows:

• Fertilizer 25%

Broken roots shall be trimmed by manpower for development Cuttings that mark an excess of 25mm diameter shall be treated with substance against fungus Filling with soil of 150 -250mm thickness to ensure ventilation and lingkage between soil and roots

Soil shall be provided to roots to make a cover of 150mm Watering right after planting shall be applicable following a layer of organic matter of 50mm thickness shall be added overall the tree pits

All trees shall be pruned after trees are planted This prunning operation shall only be taken at the planting period and must conform to the requirements

Tree pits shall be made in accordance with the design in dimension, shape to receive top soil not thinner than 150mm

The cut tree pits shall be provided with top soil of 15mm thickness at the bottom and this soil shall be compacted by man feet or by other approved

tampers Following the top soil filling, trees shall be basket-grown, well formed Plant material shall be kept moist

Trees shall be planted in the center of the digged pits and kept up The holes shall be backfilled with soil and compacted

Fertilizer shall be slightly applied over the backfilled area and shall not reach trunks and its branches after they are planted and before getting trees wound Tree holes plus 150mm surrounding area from trees shall be wound with 150mm thickness within 24 hour of planting

Smaller trees shall be watered by spraying in three shifts/day in conformity with the guidance and approval of the Engineer The soil ball shall be guaranteed not to be broken resulting from slightly watering the neck of trunk

Bigger trees shall be supported by the wooden stakes without touching the soil balls in accordance with the bidding documents These stakes shall be inserted down to the ground The invisible inserted part of the stakes shall be as long as 100mm, and the visible part as high as one and haft of the height of trees

Other miscellaneous such as Slope protection, Shotcrete and Shortcrete Frame, Curb, Gutter and Median, Gabion, Stone riprap, Foundation for lighting, etc will be

in accordance with “Division 12 – Miscellaneous” of the Specifications
