Grammar: Modals (Động từ khuyết thiếu)
may – might
- Possibility: It might rain later, so take an umbrella
- Giving permission: You may go out this evening, Alice
- Asking for permission: May I borrow your Ipad, please?
- Expressing wishes: May the new year bring good crops
- Speculation about past actions: She’s late She may have missed the plane
MAY and MIGHT can be normally interchanged without a significant difference in meaning
However, MIGHT often implies a smaller chance of something happening when expressing
possibility
E.g: It MAY rain (70% chance)
It MIGHT rain (40% chance)
When expressing wishes or permission, only MAY is used
