+ Revision of reduced relative clauses and passive voice with different verb forms and with modals

+ distinguish preserve from reserve and use them appropriately

- Write the jumbled words on the board

- Ask Ss to reorder the jumbled words in the

correct order to make them meaningful words

- Ask Ss to translate the words into Vietnamese

and distinguish the meaning the two words

Preserve vs Reserve

- Show the 4 pictures and say 4 utterances (one by

one)

1 She reserves some money to use later

2 She reserves a seat for her friend

3 She preserves her skin from the sunlight

- Whole class

4 She preserves the cake from the cat.

- Stick the poster containing the four sentences

above on the board

- Ask Ss to translate the sentences into Vietnamese, -

- Ask Ss to open the book

- Give Vietnamese meaning for the words in the book

+ To reserve (v): to keep back for better use (để

dành, dành riêng)

+ Reservation (n): (1) việc đặt chỗ trước;

(2) khu vực dành riêng cho

người da đỏ (ở Mỹ)

- Make sure Ss understand the meaning and know

how to use the two words appropriately

- Translate the sentences into Vietnamese

- copy down

- Ask Ss to read the task in the book

- Elicit the task Make sure Ss understand the task

- Ask Ss to read the task carefully before choosing

the right words

- Have Ss to note that the words’ form should be

changed to be grammatically correct

- Have Ss to work individually to complete the

Presentation 2: Reduced Relative Clause

- Give introduction to Reduced Clause (It’s a phrase,

not an adjective clause We could delete the relative

pronoun and the verb “Be” by using a Reduced

- Introduce the two cases of Reduced relative clause

+ When the relative pronoun is followed by a TO

changes in the reduced sentence

normal verb.

(Snake is the animal belonging to species of reptile

- Have Ss to pay attention to the change of the verb’s

form

- Make sure Ss understand and know the two ways of

reducing the relative clauses

- Ask Ss to read the first example in the book

- Ask Ss to distinguish the two types of Reduced

Relative Clause in the book

a Passive voice with different verb forms

- T shows the picture again “She reserves a seat for

her friend”

- Ask Ss to make a passive sentence with the above

sentence

A seat is reserved for her friend

- Remind the structure of passive voice

S + V + O

S + be + V3/ed + O

- Give the general form of passive voice:

General form:

- Give some sentences and ask Ss to change into

passive voice:

1 We have studied English grammar since 8:40

English grammar has been studied since 8:40

(by us)

2 She is holding an umbrella

An umbrella is being held (by her)

- Feed back and correct

- Make sure Ss remember the passive voice’s

structures with different verb forms

b Passive voice with modals:

- Remind Ss some modal verb: will, would, may,

might, should, can, must, have to, had to, ought to,

had better to, be able to, etc

- Show the picture “She should preserve the cake

from the cat.”

- Ask Ss to change the sentence into passive voice

The cake should be preserved from the cat

- Elicit the form of the sentence:

- 1 Ss make passive sentence

- Ask Ss to go to the board to write the answers

- Correct the sentences

- Help Ss to recognize which modal verb is used in

the example
