Trong hồ sơ xin việc hay xin học bổng, cover letter đóng vai trò rất quan trọng Đó là văn bản đầu tiên trong hồ sơ Đó cũng là văn bản mà người tuyển dụng đọc đầu tiên, và nếu thấy ok, thì họ tiếp tục đọc; còn không thì họ sẽ không đọc tiếp Do đó, cách viết cover letter rất quan trọng, và trong cái note này tôi sẽ chỉ các bạn vài mẹo viết
Một cover letter phải bao gồm những nội dung sau đây:
• Tên và địa chỉ liên lạc của người viết (góc bên phải của thư);
• Tên và địa chỉ (và danh xưng, nếu có) của người nhận (góc bên trái của thư);
• Đoạn đầu nói cho được lí do của lá thư (là xin việc) và tên của vị trí là gì;
• Đoạn thứ hai là viết về quá trình học vấn;
• Đoạn thứ ba viết về kinh nghiệm;
• Đoạn cuối cùng thuyết phục tại sao bạn là người lí tưởng cho công việc
• Nếu cần cho thêm địa chỉ liên lạc của người giới thiệu
Một số điều cần tránh khi viết cover letter:
• Tránh viết sai chính tả (dấu hiệu của sự cẩu thả);
• Tránh dùng "tôi" (hay "I") nhiều quá;
• Không liệt kê những bằng cấp hay công việc không liên quan;
• Không nên viết quá một trang
