Activity 1
Identifying clauses in a compound sentence
Put brackets around the two independent clauses separated by a conjunction.
Example
[Making yeast bread dough from scratch can be complicated] but [it’s also very satisfying.]
1 First, you need to combine dry yeast with warm water, but don’t use hot water
2 Hot water will kill the yeast and then your bread is doomed
3 Sift flour into a bowl so you can add it to the yeast mixture later
4 Mix together milk, butter and maybe some sugar, or heat these together on the stove
5. Mix everything together except the flour, and then add the flour one cup at a time
