As a follow-up to Start Up English, Speed Up English is a conversational textbook for English learners who are at a high beginner level The lessons and activities in each unit of this book will give learners opportunities to understand the basics of English structure and become familiar with beginner-level vocabulary and expressions This book will enable students to build up a strong foundation in the fundamentals of conversational English and develop higher-level speaking skills
There are 20 units in this book and each unit consists of the following subsections
Talk | is a short dialogue that includes the target structures of each unit This shows learners how the words and
grammatical points they have covered in the subsections 1 and 2 can be used in an actual conversation Students
are expected to study the given dialogue first and then make use of the cue words presented under each picture
to familiarize themselves with the expressions After a sufficient number of drill practices, teachers are expected
to encourage learners to close their books and have a similar conversation
4 Talk 2
Talk 2 provides a more challenging conversation script with additional expressions Learners are not only expected to repeat the structures that they practiced with Talk 1, but also to become familiar with some other useful expressions
5 Activity 1
This section is designed to stimulate learners to practice a conversation with their peers by applying what they have learned in each unit By exchanging information, students have many chances to use real communication Easy instructions help students understand what to do
6 Activity 2
Activity 2 provides some authentic materials and cloze quizzes It also challenges the learners to use reading and writing skills This activity allows the students to check their understanding of each unit as way to wrap-up the
section
This edition could not have been completed without the valuable comments we received from the
instructors at Pagoda Academy
