When performing diagnostics or reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) for Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) sensors and Oxygen (O2) sensors use the following information to identify, locate and repair the appropriate sensor and sensor circuits:
(1) Rarely will multiple sensors fail at the same time.
(2) On vehicles with only one O2 sensor, the designation for that O2 sensor will be bank 1 (3) On vehicles with only one A/F sensor, the designation for that A/F sensor will be bank 1 (4) Any reference to sensor 1 is an A/F sensor.
(5) Any reference to sensor 2 is an O2 sensor.
(6) Early PZEV vehicles used an additional O2 sensor behind the rear catalyst
and is designated sensor 3.
(7) On vehicles with A/F and O2 sensors on the right (Passenger Side) and left (Driver side)
of the vehicle, Bank 1 is the right side (Passenger Side) and Bank 2 is the
left side (Driver side)
Example: DTC P0030 HO2S HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT (Bank 1 Sensor 1) This DTC is
referring to the A/F sensor and since it is on a 2007 Forester there is only one A/F sensor and one O2 sensor.
CAUTION: VEHICLE SERVICING PERFORMED BY UNTRAINED PERSONS
COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY TO THOSE PERSONS OR TO OTHERS.
Subaru Service Bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians ONLY They
are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur in some vehicles, or
to provide information that could assist in the proper servicing of the vehicle Properly
trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to
do the job correctly and safely If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that this
Service Bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
