Trang 3Papa Bear was relaxing in his
hammock, Brother Bear was ridinghis skateboard, and Sister Bear wasskipping rope
"Papa!" called Mama from thekitchen window of the Bears' treehouse "Instead of snoozing, I shouldthink you could do some chores
around the house."
Trang 5But Papa wasn't snoozing He" wasdeep in thought, thinking about hisfavorite thing—honey! Especially thewild, wild honey in the gnarled old beetree deep in the dark forest.
Trang 7"Papa," said Sister "Mama's callingyou to do chores."
"Chores? What kind of chores?"
asked Papa
"Take your choice," said Mama
"There's a broken step, some loose bark, and all the faucets in the house drip."
Trang 9"Of course, my dear I'll take care of
it You can count on me."
But Papa was still thinking about
ways to get that special honey—the wild, wild honey in the gnarled old bee treedeep in the dark forest
Trang 11He had tried just about everything, but all he had gotten for his trouble wasstung.
He had tried pretending he wasn'tgoing after honey at all, but the beeshad spied Papa's honey pot and stormedafter him
Trang 13He had tried hiding in the bushesuntil the worker bees left on their dailyrounds Then he tried to break into thebee tree with tooth and claw.
But that hadn't worked either Thequeen bee had heard the commotionand called the workers home Oncemore Papa had been foiled
Trang 15"Well, I'd better get to work on thosefaucets," said Papa, getting out of hishammock.
"Wait a minute! I've got it! What anidea! The perfect way to get that wild, wild honey—quiet, easy, and safe!"
Trang 17He went into his workshop and cameout with a faucet—that's right, an old, discarded faucet.
Trang 19He shined it up and oiled it so that itwas working properly.
"What are you going to do?" askedBrother
"It's very simple I'm going to drill ahole in the base of the bee tree andinstall the faucet Then, whenever I'm
in the mood for honey, I'll just turn onthe faucet and fill my pot with thatdelicious wild, wild honey."
Trang 23"Of course it will work," Papa
whispered as he drilled a hole in thebase of the bee tree "It's super-duperguaranteed to work."
It began to look as if Papa was right
He worked quietly so as not to alertthe queen bee or any of her subjects.Indeed, there wasn't a bee in sight.Soon Papa's invention was ready
"Now I'll turn on the faucet and—yum, I can almost taste it—we'll haveinstant honeyl"
Papa turned the handle
Trang 29Back at the tree house the cubsexplained to Mama that Papa's honeyfaucet hadn't worked very well.
"Doesn't surprise me," said Mama
"The faucets in our house don't workvery well either."
Trang 31Then Mama went to work tweezingthe stingers out of the seat of Papa'soveralls.
"Ouch!" said Papa "Ouch! Ouch!Ouch!"
