Itusedtobethecasethatsocialandenvironmentalinvestmentopportunitiesweremoreexpensivetosetupandprovidedlesspot-entialforgrowththanlessethicallyconsciousalternatives.However,thisisnotnecessarilythecasenow.Theenvironmentalmovementisgainingpaceworldwideandmoreandmoreenvironmentallyawarecompanies are being set up, while older companies are changingtheir traditional practices. When choosing a company in which toinvest,orfromwhichtoborrow,youneedtomatchyourfinancialcircumstances with your environmental philosophy. For example,areyouinterestedincompaniesthatcontributetowardsasafeandhealthy environment, offer ecologically superior products or useecological principles to drive product design and/or investment(seeChapters5and6)?Wouldyoubewillingtopaymoreforyourfinancial product if it met your ethical/environmental criteria, orwouldyoubewillingtocompromiseoncertainprinciplestoobtainabetterdeal?

Also, you may be able to takeadvantageofagovernmentschemecalledtheLowCarbonBuildingsProgramme.ThisisaUK-wideprogrammethatprovidesgrantstoindividuals,communitiesandbusinessesforrenewabletechnologies(seeChapter9).Bydevelopinganenvironmentallyfriendlyproperty,youcanmatchyouenvironmentalphilosophywithyourpropertyaspirationsandmakeagoodprofitatthesametime
