Most of us are aware that the cars and trucks that we drive today powered by a resource that will eventually be used up.Oil, from which we derive gasoline, is a nonrenewable resource, and while experts disagree about how much longer world supplies of it will last ,it’s inevitable that eventually we’ll need to find other ways to power automobiles HEVs ,or Hydrid eclectric vehicles provide a practical alternative to traditional

gasonline-powered automobiles

The word hybrid refers to something that is a mixture of two or more things HEVs

are automobiles that run on both gaoline and electricity.At low speeds with frequent stops , such as on a city street, the HEV runs on the more effient electric motor To save energy, the engine automatically shuts off when the vehicles comes to a stop, such as at the traffic light, and restarts when the driver puts the car in motion At the medium or high speeds typical or highway driving ,HEV operates on its more powerful gasonline engine The electric motor provides additional power as needed to help the gasoline engine to increase speed or climbs hills This allows a smaller, more efficient gasoline engine to be used As a result , HEVs use about half as much gasoline as traditional vehicles

There are also immediate environmental benefits to driving HEVs Electricity, unlike gasonline , is a clean energy source that does not release harmful gases into the air

Because HEVs use only half as much gasonline as traditional vehicles, they create about half as much pollution.Moreover, the electricity used by HEVs can be generated by

renewable recources such as solar and geothermal energy

If you’re still not convinced that HEVs are a good option, then consider the
