Specimen Assessor’s Copy
In order to prepare for the assessment and to gather any materials or props to be used,
Assessors are allowed to open their copy at the start of the three-week period before the
Reading and Writing test date but no sooner
The contents must not be disclosed to candidates until 15 minutes prior to assessment
No additional materials are required
Instructions
The Assessment of Speaking Skills must be conducted at any time during the
3 weeks before the Reading and Writing test date
Candidates should be given the details of which scenario will be used immediately
prior to the assessment (not more than 15 minutes before)
Candidates may be assessed on 4 separate occasions during the 3 weeks before the
test date This may be a repeat assessment of the same scenario, or they may
choose a different one
Each assessment should last between 5 and 10 minutes This can include making
the candidate comfortable, enabling him/her to be familiar with the process and
getting the assessment started
Candidates can meet the criteria across the number of required assessments rather
than being assessed on all of them each time
The overall total mark for the required assessment(s) will count towards the final
certification
Record the total mark in the box provided above
This test paper must be returned to AQA with Paper 0414/1B, and Paper 0414/2 or
0415/2 or 0416/2 for this candidate

For assessment, the candidate must take part in one short, one-to-one or group discussion (5-10
minutes) with a known person or persons in a situation unlikely to be intimidating and ask questions to obtain information The context of the discussion should enable candidates to demonstrate to their best ability the required speaking skills to be assessed whilst meeting the criteria listed below
In a confidential waiting area immediately prior to assessment, but no longer than 15 minutes
