Teacher Instructions
Level:
Elementary
Aim:
Practice identifying various community
places through what we do inside them
Objective:
Reading and matching sentences that
describe places in a community
Language Skill:
Reading
Interaction Pattern:
Individual
Introducing the Activity:
Gather your students around a table
Before opening the box, you can draw
the students attention to the picture and
the title on the cover Elicit from them
the theme/topic, and what they can see
there
Open the box and put the cards with the
sentences facing up It would be great if you arranged the cards were they have the sentences faced up [This would minimize their attention to the pictures
on the other side ]Part in italics sounds repetitive Necessary?
sentences
Ask one student to choose a card, and another one to pick the other card matching the sentence
Once the class agrees that both are a match, then ask the two students to flip the cards they chose revealing the picture
Alternative Idea:
Whole Class Activity: Randomly, give out
(1card/1student) and ask students to find their match They can only read their sentence and listen to the other peers’ sentences Emphasize the need to hide their half picture
