COUNTABLE NOUS
Are words like car, book, pen They are names of things that you can count: You
can say one car, two books, tree pens.
They can be singular ( a cat, one pencil) or plural ( two pencils, a lot of pens).
UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS
Are words like smoke, rice, water, petrol These are things that you can´t count you say
“smoke”, but not “ one smoke” or “two rices”.
Uncountable nouns are only singular , and we cannot use a / an with them
We can make uncountable nouns countable to express quantity We add a unit or a quantity with “OF”
We use a / an only before singular countable nouns.
(A/An is bit like one: you can´t say one pencils or one smoke.)
We often use an uncountable noun (without a / an) to say something is made of.
Example: This sweater is made of silk
a car
three pens
smoke
a pencil
Trang 3A) Countable or uncountable? Write the following nouns under the correct column.
