Lesson Objective: Learn phrases to give advice to others Write a letter giving a friend advice for
his/her problem
Assumptions: Ss have seen the conditional before Ss have had a class on basic letter writing
format before (dear name, …paragraphs sincerely, Katrina)
Anticipated Problems & Solutions:
Problem1 – Ss have not seen the conditional before
Solution 1 – briefly write “If I were you I would /you should/could ” on the board for them to fill in the blanks
Problem 2 – Minji and Yong-suk will talk too much in Korean
Solution 2 – Pair them differently Ask them to change seats

Practice saying “I have a problem… What do you think I should do?” in different ways
Presentation: Introduce “I have a problem” phrases
1) T starts class with “Hey guys Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it! I have a big problem! Last night, while my roommate was sleeping, I accidently broke his brand new Wii!
I don’t know what to do I haven’t seen him yet What do you think I should do? 2) Ss respond
3) T introduces topic We’re going to talk about problems and giving advice for

5) T writes equation: (Problem) + What do you think I should do?/What do you

Practice: Ss tell each other that they have a problems.

1) T writes Different Ways to give advice on the board (see homework handout)
2) T goes over Have you thought about….? Why don’t you ….?
Production: Ss express a problem and give each other advice
1) T distributes handouts
2) Ss work alone for a few minutes writing answers for their partner’s problems
3) S (a) expresses problem S (b) gives advice
4) Ss work back and forth until hand out is completed
5) T monitors Ss and makes corrections to their written work as need be

1) T writes errors she has heard during the class on the board (erroneous sentences or
