Set 1: spiral notebook, computer chip, London Underground sign, orange

Set 2: rose, log (or wood, firewood), blueberry, (surface of) the Moon

Set 3: kiwi, grain, 100 US dollar bill, golf ball

Set 4: hamburger, popcorn, (sea) shell, (froth on) coffee

• Put students in pairs or groups.

• Each group has to try to find out what is in the pictures

o Stimulate discussion in English.

o Encourage them to reach a consensus.

o Even if they don’t know, they should guess and write a definition

• Award points for CORRECT, FUNNY or IMAGINATIVE answers.

• When the brainstorming and writing is done, make it a communicative exercise whereby students explain their answers.
