Example: The student’s glasses = one student is the owner of the glasses;
For an item or items belonging to more than one person, use s’
Example: The students’ books = more than one student is the owner of the books.
For things and objects, use of the
Example: The legs of the chair.
When there’s more than one owner:
• To show common possession, only the last owner receives ’s
Example: Suzy and Bella’s house = the same house.
• To show individual possession, use ’s for each owner.
Example: John’s and Billy’s mother = different mothers.
