3/8” Wide Elastic 

Handbag Measurements: 

9” tall 15” wide across the middle 12” wide across the bottom 

Straps: any length that’s convenient for you 

Fabric Needed: 

Handbag: ½ yard Lining: ½ yard Casing and bow fabric: ½ yard Fusible Fleece: ½ yard 

Fusible Interfacing:1 yard 

All pattern pieces can be found at the end of the ebook. 

Seam Allowance: ¼”

Cut out the front and back pieces

In order to trace the dart onto the handbag, place the pattern onto the fusible fleece side of the front and back pieces with a piece of black 

tracing paper behind it as shown

This is what your pencil markings should look like

Cut out two strips of fabric measuring 21 ½” x 1 ¾” for the elastic 

casing

Fold in the edges ¼” as shown and press.

Pin each strip onto the front and back pieces 2 ¼” from the top.

Sew the strips onto the front and back pieces along both sides.

Gather the elastic and pull the safety pin so the elastic goes through 

the casing

Turn the bag right­side out

3” wide x your desired length. 

Iron the interfacing onto the back of each strap with medium heat

Fold in the edges ¼” as shown and press. 

Pin and sew the straps onto the handbag 5 ½” from the side seams

Using the pattern piece, cut out two lining pieces.

Iron the fusible interfacing onto the back of each lining piece using a medium heat setting with steam. Press firmly until attached

Sew the elastic casing onto each lining piece along both sides

Sew the lining pieces together around the outside leaving a 7” opening 

in the bottom

Sew the handbag and lining together along the top.

Sew the opening in the lining closed with a zig zag stitch. Push the 

lining into the handbag

Top stitch the top of the handbag for a finished look
