Based on the new versio n of The Usage of Punctuat ion, and the recent situat ion of it s using, the article co mpares and works up with punctuat ion definit io n, form as well as specific usage In the process o f studying, the article not only links to the punctuat ion differences of new and tradit ional ones, but also points out new problems of punctuat ion and broaden the view

of its research

并 在 各 种 语 言 中 验 证 了 此 类 分 法 的 普 遍 性 。Nunberg（ 1990）提 出 英 语 的

标 点 符 号 可 以 使 语 篇 层 次 明 晰 化 ， 把 限 制 降 低 。 Briscoe（ 1996） 专 门 针

表 示 不 同 的 关 系 ，并 运 用 DST 理 论 来 分 析 。他 尝 试 把 标 点 分 成 三 类 ：修

辞 平 衡 、聚 合 标 记 、修 辞 标 记 。Pascual 和 Virbel（ 1996）分 析 了 “篇 章 型 ”

2、 语 料 库

语 料 库 已 成 了 语 言 学 研 究 的 热 点 ， 有 很 多 优 势 。 计 算 机 语 言 学 的 标

点 符 号 研 究 ，自 然 少 不 了 语 料 库 的 帮 助 。Meyer(1983)是 第 一 个 尝 试 运 用

语 料 库 从 语 音 学 角 度 对 标 点 符 号 进 行 研 究 的 。 Garside 等 人 (1987) 对 以NLP 为 基 础 的 语 料 库 进 行 了 概 然 (probabilist ic)研 究 。 他 们 在 叙 述 附 属 分

Zhou 和 Zhuang (2004)分 析 了 “即 时 通 讯 ”(instant message)中 标 点 符

译 理 论 家 都 讨 论 过 翻 译 中 标 点 符 号 处 理 的 问 题 ， 但 多 数 研 究 都 是 翻 译 技

巧 层 面 的 探 讨 ， 强 调 不 同 语 言 体 系 下 标 点 符 号 的 差 异 给 翻 译 带 来 的 问 题

及 应 对 办 法 ， 提 醒 译 者 应 注 意 标 点 符 号 修 养 ， 提 高 译 文 质 量 等 。 其 实 除

了 这 种 主 观 经 验 式 的 总 结 ， 翻 译 视 野 下 的 标 点 符 号 强 以 进 行 系 统 的 研 究 1、 翻 译 普 遍 性 与 标 点 符 号

个 从 强 到 弱 的 阶 梯 性 ： 逗 号 、 分 号 、 句 号 ， 其 中 逗 号 的 最 普 遍 。 这 与 丹

麦 原 文 中 的 标 点 符 号 使 用 大 不 相 同 ，却 更 接 近 英 语 的 使 用 规 范 。后 来 May (1997)分 析 了 Virginia Woo lf 的 法 文 译 本 与 Willia m Faulkner 的 俄 文 译 本

瑞 典 语 逗 号 的 使 用 率 明 显 减 少 了 ， 逗 号 和 分 号 大 多 被 转 化 成 句 号 。 2、 翻 译 风 格 与 标 点 符 号

析 单 位 。 事 实 上 ， 自 然 语 言 处 理 中 一 直 将 标 点 符 号 作 为 语 言 切 分 、 转 换

和 处 理 的 主 要 依 据 ，没 有 标 点 的 语 言 是 很 难 进 行 分 析 的 。在 书 面 翻 译 中 ，

多 数 人 认 为 标 点 符 号 的 使 用 是 后 天 学 会 的 ， 因 为 标 点 符 号 的 使 用 规

则 是 人 规 范 和 制 定 的 。 究 竟 标 点 符 号 是 如 何 学 会 的 ？ 问 题 不 易 回 答 。Nunberg 就 认 为 不 少 标 点 符 号 现 象 要 涉 及 到 “ 默 会 知 识 ”(tacit knowledge)， 它 们 既 不 是 教 会 的 ， 也 不 是 排 版 者 的 习 惯 使 然 。 他 举 了 不

织 由 NigelHall 和 Anne Robinson 管 理 ，已 经 召 开 了 不 少 会 议 ，出 版 了 不

用 韩 礼 德 的 功 能 语 法 模 式 ， 从 语 相 、 语 法 和 语 义 三 个 层 次 对 标 点 符 号 系

统 进 行 了 深 入 的 研 究 。 杨 亮 认 为 ， 标 点 符 号 具 有 等 级 性 、 功 能 性 与 规 则
