I Aim :

By the end of the lesson , Ss will be able to :

- learn a poem about the environment

- develop reading skill

II Language contents :

Grammar : Conditional sentences: type 1 ( revision)

Vocabulary :

(n) junk yard, hedge, nonsense, foam, treasure, stream, folk

(a) second hand

(v) end up

III Techniques : Chatting, questions and answers Prediction, rub out and remember, game

IV Teaching aids :

_ Cassette, tape

V Procedures :

T asks students some questions

Ss answer

T corrects , then gives Ss the marks

1 Warm up / marks

* Chatting :

+ Have you ever read an English poem? Do you understand it? Do you like it?

+ Which poem do you like best?

+Name some poems that are your favorite?

Get students to learn the new words

T explains the meaning

Ss listen and take notes

T uses “Rub out and remember” to check

vocabulary

Let Ss review the grammar note, then do the

example

T sets the scene

2 Pre-reading : New words:

Junk yard (n): a place to store rubbish and waste hedge (n) = fence (picture)

nonsense (n): meaningless words or ideas foam (n) : mass of bubbles of air or gas end up (v) : use up / finish

second-hand (a) : used treasure (n) : valuable/ precious things stream (n) : current or flow of water folk (n) : people

* Checking techniques :

Rub out and remember

* Grammar :

- Conditional sentences ( type 1)

Ex : If the pollution goes on , the world will end up like

a second-hand junk yard

* Set the scene :

You are going to read a poem about the environment

Ss listen

Let Ss read the text, then find the answers to

the questions

Have Ss look at the words and the phrases, then

work in pairs, doing the matching

T corrects

Have Ss work in groups, asking and answering

the questions in the textbook

( page 51 )

Let Ss play a game , using conditional

sentences

T corrects

T writes the home assignment on the board

b) Answer Then write the answers in your exercise book:

1 If the pollution goes on , the world will end up like a second-hand junk yard

2 The mother thinks other folk pollute the environment not her and her son

3 If the boy keeps on asking such questions, his mother will take him home right away

4 No Because he is right : if he throws the bottles that will be polluting the woods

5 The poet wants us to learn that everyone is responsible for keeping the environment from pollution

6 ( Ss’answer) Put the garbage bins around the schoolyard…
