Cách đọc các loại số trong Tiếng Anh Chữ số trong tiếng Anh được tập hợp thành 3 nhóm.

Millions thousands hundreds

Ví dụ:

600 - Six hundred

1,600 - Sixteen hundred (or One thousand six hundred)

16,000 - Sixteen thousand

16, 208, 013 = Sixteen million two hundred eight thousand (and) thirteen

300,012 - Three hundred thousand (and) twelve

312,615,729 - Three hundred twelve thousand six hundred fifteen thousand seven hundred twenty nine

Cách đọc phân số

Khi đọc phân số trong tiếng Anh, chúng ta luôn đọc tử số bằng số đếm

Eg: 1/3 = one third

3/5 = three fifths

½ = one half

Mẫu số thì phức tạp hơn một chút Nếu tử số nhỏ hơn 10 và mẫu số nhỏ hơn 100 thì chúng ta dùng số thứ tự để đọc mẫu số, và tử số lớn hơn một thì phải nhớ thêm “s” vào mẫu số nữa Chẳng hạn:

Eg: 1/6 = one sixth

4/9 = four nineths

9/20 = nine twentieths

Còn khi tử số từ 10 trở lên hoặc mẫu số từ 100 trở lên thì phải dùng số đếm để đọc từng chữ số một ở dưới mẫu, giữa tử số và mẫu số cần có “over” Ví dụ:

Eg: 12/5 = twelve over five

18/19 = eighteen over one nine

3/123 = three over one two three

Nếu biết cách đọc phân số rồi thì đọc hỗn số rất dễ Phần số nguyên chúng ta đọc bằng số đếm, “and”

ở giữa và phân số thì đọc như cách vừa hướng dẫn ở trên

Eg: Four and four fifths: bốn, bốn phần năm

Thirteen and nineteen over two two: mười ba, mười chín phần hai mươi hai

Ngoài ra còn một vài trường hợp đặc biệt, không tuân theo quy tắc trên, đó là những phân số rất thường gặp và được nói ngắn gọn:

½ = one half = a half

¼ = one fourth = one quarter = a quarter

¾ = three quarters

1/100 = one hundredth

1/1000 = one over a thousand = one thousandth

Cách đọc số mũ:

Chúng ta sẽ sử dụng số đếm và cụm “to the power of”

Eg: 2 mũ 5 = two to the power of five

5 mũ 6 = five to the power of six

Tuy nhiên với số mũ 2 và mũ 3 thì chúng ta cũng có cách đọc khác, giống như bình phương và lập phương trong tiếng Việt đấy, đó là “squared” và “cubed”:

Eg: 10 mũ 2 = ten squared

10 mũ 3 = ten cubed
