UNIT 4B: WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD.

Grammar: V- ING Period order: 3

I- Aims and objectives

- Students revise ways of adding V- ing and the ues of the infinitives (with to)

- The lesson provides students with the uses of V-ing

- Students have chance to enrich their vocabulary of verb phrases

- Students will be able to develope their reading skill with a reading passage about pleasure and enjoyment that make people feel good

- After the lesson, students will be able to use V-ing and compare with verbs + infinitive to practice more at home

- Students may have difficulties in working in groups to describe pictures

V- Procedure

A Check the old lesson (10’)

Task 1: Students work in two groups to write down V -ing to the verbs given

dance play ski lie run stop

cook try swim meet enjoy close

Task 2: Students work in two groups to choose the the most suitable form of the verbs or

the correct sentences (?)

1 It's important for us late for the eaxm (not be/ be not/ not to be)

2 Why do you want to go to the party ? to - new people ( meet/ talk / understand)

3 Would you like having a cup of tea? - yes please! (right/ wrong)

4 We're planning a holiday next month (to make/ to do / to have)

5 It's useful and important for us learn English today (right/ wrong) (?)

6 They are going to Dalat their honey moon ( to have/ spend/ to make)

7 You're helpful us the money, thank you (lending/ to lend / not to lend)

- Ask students to look at the 3 sentences and comment the use of V- ing in each sentence

1 Smoking is bad for our health (subject)

2 He likes dancing (object)

3 My mother is very good at cooking (complement)

Concept check

1 Subject:

eg Running in the morning makes us strong

2 Object: V+ing stands after some verbs (like/ love/ hate/ enjoy/ dislike/ start / stop/ mind/ give up/ finish, )

eg I hate doing housework

3 Complement: V+ing stands after some prepositions ( in/ at/ on/of/ with/ without/ before/ after, about )

eg - We're tired of working

- He sometimes goes to class without having breakfast

*Task 1: Teacher asks student to work individually to order the words to make sentences

Task 1: Reorder these words to complete the sentences

*Task 2: Look at the pictures and word cues to complete the sentences (6’)

Task 3: (6’) Students work individually to choose the correct form of the verbs

Task 4: (8’) Find someone who

Work in groups of eight to do a survey by asking questions to find someone who, then one secretary reports to the class
