Lesson plan Unit 13: Hobbies

Period speaking

-Teacher in charge: Lê Thị Hoa

Class: 11 Hoá Date: 15/03/2010

Time allotted: 45 minutes

• Objective: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to ask and answer about

a hobby

• Skills: speaking and listening

• Lexical items: second- hand book stall (n), pen-friend (n), classify (v)

• Teaching aids: handouts, pictures

Procedure

I. Warm-up (4 mins)

Game: Kim’s game

- T divides class into four groups

- T gives instruction: “ I will show you 8 pictures of interesting

activities You will have 30 seconds to identify their names and try

to memorize them After that one person in each group will go to the board to write as many names of activities as possible Which group has more right answer will be the winner.”

- T checks instruction

- Ss play games

- T gives feedback

Showing pictures:

1. Cooking

2. Swimming

3. Fishing

4. Shopping

5. Reading books

6. Playing football

7. Singing

8. Playing chess

• Lead - in:

1. Which activites do you like best? Why?

2. What are your hobbies? Do you spend much time on them?

- Ss listen and answer the questions

- T says: to talk more about hobbies, we will continue with unit 13, speaking part

II. Pre- speaking (10 mins)

1. Vocabulary

9. + second –hand book stall (n): small old book store

10. Eliciting technique: explanation

11. It is a small shop which sells old books

14. What do you call a friend you know through letters or newspapers?

2. Presenting the dialogue

- T draws faces of two people on the board

- T gives instruction: “ this is Lan and this is Huong They are

talking about their hobbies.”

- T sticks the following flipchart (with an open dialogue) on the board:

18. Huong: What is your (1) , Lan?

19. Lan: Well, I like ( 2)

20. Huong: Could you tell me how you collect your book?

21. Lan: Well, this must be done regularly Whenever I find a book which is (3) I buy it immediately

22. Huong: Where do you buy your book?

23. Lan: I buy some from the bookshop near my house and some others from (4) Sometimes my friend, my mum and dad gave me some.

24. Huong: How do you (5) your collection?

25. Lan:I classify them into different (6) and put each category in one corner of my bookself with a name tag on it.

26. Huong: What do you plan to do next, Lan?

27. Lan: I think I’ll continue to make my collection richer and richer

III. While- speaking (20 mins)

29. Activity 1: practice dialouge

- T models with one student in the class

- Open pairs

- Closed pairs

- T asks Ss about the content of dialouge:

1. What is lan’s hobby?

2. How does she collect her books?

3. Where does she buy them?

4. How does she organization her collections?

5. What does she plan to do next?

- T draws on the board a network like that:

45. Activity 2 (task 3, p 149)

- T asks Ss work in pairs

- T asks them to base on the dialogue in activity 1 to make a similar dialogue, using the cues in P 149
