- To help students read for details about Christmas

II Objectives:

- By the end of the lesson , Ss will get some knowledge about Christmas

III Teaching Aids : posters , pictures

III Work arrangements : group work , pair work

V Procedure:

1 Warmer ( chatting )

Teacher uses a christmas card and asks students some questions about picture Students listen and answer them

T : What is this ?

Ss : ( a chritmas card )

T : When do you usually get it ?

Ss : ( on Christmas day )

T : What can you see and listen on Christmas day ?

Ss : (I can see the Christmas tree , the Christmas card , Santa Claus and I can listen Christmas carols )

* Now let’s begin the new lesson , the content of the text talks about Christmas

2.Pre- reading:

a, Pre- teach vocabulary

The Christmas tree : ( picture ) : Cây nô ên

(To) decorate ( to make something look more attractive by putting things on it : trang trí

(To) spread – spread – spread :

to cover a larger and larger area ( explanation ) lan truyền

The Christmas card : ( picture ) : Thiệp nô ên

Christmas carol: ( picture and explanation ) : Bài hát lễ nô ên

Santa Claus : ( picture ) : Ông già nô ên

Patron saint : (translation ): Thánh bảo hộ

* T uses the steps for presenting vocabulary

- elicit a new word

- model ( 2 or 3 times )

- repeat in chorally ( individually ) 3 students repeat

- write word on the board

- checking meaning

- checking pronunciation and stress

- copy all the words

* Rub out and remember

- ask them to close their books

- Rub out the new words one at a time

- Each time you rub one word in English , point to the VN translation ask Ss to repeat again it

- When all the English words are rubbed out , go through the VN list and ask Ss to repeat them

- Write the English words again

* True or False statements prediction :

- stick the poster of T / F statements on the board

- set the scene : These statements are about Christmas , read them and guess which statements are true , which are false

- Get students to work in individually and then ask students to compare with

partners

- Give Ss 3 minutes to guess

* Comprehension questions :

Before answering the questions , Teacher asks Ss to read the text again and find the answers Teacher gives Ss 5 minutes to complete them

- Have a game “ Lucky Numbers ”

- Divide the class into two teams

- Write 8 numbers on the board from 1 to 8

- Tell Ss each number is for a question but there are 3 lucky numbers if Ss choose a lucky number , they don’t have to answer it but they get 2 points and

they can get another number if they choose a question , they have to answer it

if they answer right , they also get 2 points if which team has more point is winner

4 Post-reading:

* Gap fill

- Give Ss 4 minutes to read the text again

- Ask Ss to fill in the gaps with the suitable words from the text

- Call on some Ss to go to the board and write their answers

- for each sentence , Ss should be asked why they decided to choose that word

- Give the content of the text
