* Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to

- write a profile base on prompts provided

* Method: Integrated, mainly communicative

* Teaching aids: textbook

* Procedure

I WARM UP (10’)

Divide the class into 8 groups and give each group a handout

below

1 born on February 28, 1939 in Lac Giao

Grew up in Hue

Wrote more than 990 songs indcluding Uot Mi, Diem xua,

Noi Vong Tay Lon…

Died on April 1, 2001 in Ho Chi Minh City

2 born on August 19, 1975 in Hanoi

Graduated from Hanoi Conservatory in 1997

Has received many honors including the first prize in

Hanoi’s singing competition, the gold medal in the National

Competition in 1995, the golden voice of ASEAN in 1998

musician as quickly as possible

The winner will be the group with the quickest and correct answers

II PRE- WRITING (15’)

Asks to look at the handout again and read through the two tasks in

the book Ask S what a profile is and what to be included in a

profile

Introduce some features of a profile:

+ A profile is a short biography of somebody

+ A profile usually includes: date and place of birth, family, major

achievements, date of death

Remind S to use tense of verb appropriate when writing profiles

Task 1: sentence completion

Before S do the task, ask S what tense of verb they should use in

Work in group

Read the handout

Read the profiles and answer questions

Take note

this task, S also should supplement the past tense of “be”,

prepositions, articles… where necessary

Divide S into group of six Each group member will write a

sentence

Go around to observe and offer help

Group members then share their sentences with one another to get

comments and necessary correction Then they combine all

sentences into a profile

Call on 6 S to go to the board and each of them will write down a

sentence

Elicit self and peer correction and give correction when S are not

able to correct the errors

@ Suggest answers

1 He learnt to play the guitar when he was very young.

2 He learnt to play the works of composers like Bach, Beethoven,

Mozart as well as to compose music.

3 He quickly became famous.

4 His tunes were wonderful mixture of classical European and

African.

5 All in all, he wrote 50 piano rags, and was called the King of

Ragtime.

III WHILE- WRITING (12’)

Task 2: Profile writing

Ask S to read through the prompts

Remind S to use the right tense of verb and supplement articles,

prepositions, pronouns…

As S to write the profile individually in 10 minutes

Van Cao was born in Nam Ha in 1923, into a poor

worker family He could compose music when he was

very young He composed his first song in 1939 and

quickly became famous Tien Quan Ca, the Vietnamese

National Anthem, was composed in 1944 His artistic

works were songs, poems, and paintings He died in

1995 Van Cao was known as a very talented musician

and is highly appreciate by the Vietnamese people.

IV POST- WRITING (5’)

Ask S to exchange their profiles with another S for peer correction

Go around to collect mistakes, errors and some writings for quick

feedback

Write typical errors on the board and elicits self and peer correction

Provide general comments on the profile

V WRAPPING UP (2’)

Summarize the main points

Ask S rewrite the paragraph, taking into consideration their

friend’s and T’s suggestion and do extra activity

Work in group Try to finish the sentences

Share and correct to each other

Write down the sentences on the board

Read the prompts

Write the profile in 10 minutes

Exchange and correct to each other
