Trang 3I, Why Goal Setting is Important
I realize that Goal setting is not just a productivity tool—it’s a mindset and strategy that transforms potential into results For me, having a clear vision of becoming a Marketing Executive at a foreign company requires setting goals during university to stay focused, grow continuously, and build the foundation for long-term success
1 Direction: Goals act like a compass in my journey
When you set goals, you're choosing a direction for your life instead of drifting aimlessly University life comes with endless opportunities, distractions, and choices Without goals, it’s easy to waste time or settle for what's comfortable But when you have clear objectives—like building digital marketing skills, gaining real-world experience, or preparing for international work environments—you begin to filter your choices based on what aligns with your dreams
In my case, becoming a Marketing Executive in a global company means | need to develop a very specific skill set: cross-cultural communication, leadership, strategic branding, and digital marketing fluency Setting goals helps me intentionally pursue experiences that support this vision, rather than simply reacting to whatever comes my way
2 Motivation: Goals keep me inspired and focused
When things get tough, having meaningful goals keeps you motivated Whether it's preparing for exams, working on side projects, or juggling part-time jobs, you'll have moments when you feel tired or discouraged But when your goals are connected to a deep passion and purpose—like your Ikigai—you remember why you started, and that helps you push through
I understand I am not just studying for grades I am building a foundation to someday lead marketing teams, launch international campaigns, and influence global audiences Goal setting keeps me updated and on track by giving me milestones to celebrate along the way
3 Progress Tracking: Goals help me measure growth
By setting clear goals, you can track your development over time This includes academic achievements, skill acquisition, professional experience, and personal growth Without goals, progress becomes unquantifiable, and it’s hard to tell if you’re moving forward
Let’s say I set a goal to become fluent in Chinese and earn a high HSK score By tracking that goal, I can celebrate my improvements, identify areas for more consolidation, and make informed decisions This feedback loop is crucial in marketing as well, where data-driven thinking is key to success
Trang 44 Time Management: Goals teach me how to prioritize
University life is filled with competing priorities—assignments, social life, internships, family, and more Without goals, everything seems equally urgent But when you know your purpose, you learn to prioritize what truly matters Time becomes your ally, not your enemy
As for me, that could mean choosing an internship at a small creative agency over a higher-paying unrelated job, because the experience is more aligned with my long-term objectives Or spending weekends building a personal brand online instead of just consuming content Goal setting helps you manage time like a future executive would—strategically and intentionally
5 Personal Growth: Goals help you become your future self
Each goal you achieve shapes your character, builds discipline, and expands your comfort zone It’s not just about reaching a target—it’s about who you become in the process The path
to becoming a Marketing Executive is filled with challenges: public speaking, decision- making, handling pressure, understanding markets Goals give you the structure to practice these skills early and often
I often imagine my future self leading a campaign for a global brand That version of me
is confident, sharp, and creative But I don't magically become her overnight I grow into her, step by step, with every internship, project, leadership role, and goal that I pursue today
Trang 5II Self-evaluation Model — IKIGAI Model
1 What is IKIGAIT?
IKIGAI is a Japanese concept that means “a reason for being.” It's about finding purpose and joy in life by aligning what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for
The IKIGAI model typically consists of 4 overlapping circles:
What you love (Passion)
What you're good at (Profession)
What the world needs (Mission)
What you can be paid for (Vocation)
Where these circles overlap right in the center is your IKIGAT
