This Personal Development Plan (PDP) outlines the path for my academic and career growth over a four-year period at the Foreign Trade University (FTU) The PDP serves as a roadmap to achieve academic success, language proficiency, essential certifications, and skills to support both immediate academic and long-term career goals

Through this Plan, I really hope that teachers and tutors reading it could thoroughly understands my personal orientations and be the assistant that I need to achieve as much of the objectives as possible

1 Self-Assessment (SWOT Analysis)

In order to have a comprehensive and oriented towards my personal interests and qualities, a self-assesment, which follows the SWOT analysis model, is needed Acknowledging that, this is my personal analysis:

1.1 Strengths

- Critical Thinking and Detail Orientation: I possess a strong analytical mindset, which helps me approach complex topics critically and ensures thorough attention

to detail in my work

- Responsibility and Empathy: Being reliable and empathetic, I’m often able to build positive connections by understanding others’ perspectives

- Time Management: With an established discipline of meeting deadlines, I respect others' time and am punctual

1.2 Weaknesses

- Limited Vocabulary in Academic Language: Despite my interest in language, my academic vocabulary in English and Vietnamese needs further expansion

- Confidence in Expressing Opinions: I tend to shy away from voicing my opinions, especially in competitive environments

- Procrastination: My inclination to delay tasks impacts my productivity and can hinder timely achievement of my goals

1.3 Opportunities

- Intensive Peer Competition: Competing with talented students can be challenging, as it requires continuous self-improvement

- Pressure to Adapt: The necessity to adapt quickly to new environments can be demanding

- Risk of Falling Behind: The high pace may lead to setbacks if I am not proactive and adaptable, especially in well-paid positions that require productive and competitive employees

2 General Goals for 4 Years

This section outlines the overarching objectives I aim to achieve by graduation These goals will serve as the foundation for each year’s specific milestones

- Achieve Academic Excellence: Attain a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher to qualify for the FTU’s “Excellent” graduate designation

- Language Mastery: Reach IELTS 8.5 in English and conversational fluency in Chinese (HSK 4-5)

- Skill Development: Develop proficiency in design, office tools, and stock investment, along with key soft skills (e.g., teamwork, leadership)

- Professional Networking: Build connections within and outside FTU to support career opportunities post-graduation

- Career Readiness: Prepare for a fulfilling career by identifying and pursuing roles aligned with my passions

3 Detailed Year-by-Year Plan

3.1 Year 1 - Foundation Building

Objective: Establish a strong academic foundation, develop practical skills, and gain initial certifications

- Academic Goals:

+ Target GPA: Achieve and maintain a GPA of 3.6+ by excelling in foundational courses like Advanced Mathematics, Political Economy, and basic IT 1 Year – 1 st st

and 2 Semester nd

+ Study Schedule: Dedicate 3 hours per day to core subjects, review lecture videos weekly, and complete all assignments punctually

+ Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS): Obtain certification in Word and Excel by self-studying and practicing mock exams (2 hours per week) – Throughout the 1 st

4 Actionable Steps and Timeline

To ensure that I achieved all the objectives listed above, these are the steps and timeline that I need to follow:

- Daily Study and Practice: Maintain 2-3 hours daily for targeted learning (language skills, certification preparation, or project work), more specifically: + 4 hours/day practicing Reading + Listening + Writing IELTS, make time for additional courses for Writing + Speaking IELTS;

+ Spend 2 hours/day practicing HSK;

+ Spend 1 hour/day practicing MOS

- Weekly Mock Tests: For certifications like IELTS, MOS, and HSK, take mock tests every weekend to track progress Specifically:

+ IELTS: use mock test on study4, ieltsonlinetests.com, etc

+ MOS: use “The Young” mock test

+HSK: online test materials e.g “Emotional Chinese”

- Monthly Review: Assess progress with personal goals each month and adjust schedules if needed
