The most serious effect created is the property damaged and lives lost On average, thousands of victims is killed and as many as millions of the survivors suffer both mental and physical injuries On August 1971, we lost 100.000 lives when the historic flood struck Red river Moreover, they cause the devastation and long recovery to the whole affected area It is easy to find house collapsed, cars crashed and road taken away after a storm or tornado
Besides, natural disasters bring about environment related problems Natural disasters create tons of garbage ranging from reusable items to chemical substances These will retain a long time under the earth and gradually contaminate the underground water Recently, the tsunami hitting Japan on March caused the explosion in nuclear power plant which released a large amount of toxic into the air and water
On the other hand, the natural catastrophes happening slow down the economic growth There is a need of money for curing and feeding victims, clearing the garbage and buildings in ruins While separating the areas, they hinder goods transportation, trade and all other economic activities Many times, an area hit by a natural disaster will experience a jump in unemployment level, reduced agricultural production and higher energy prices
In a word, the natural disasters have had bad effects on people, environment and economy Today, they appear in various types, higher frequency and cause worse damage Although the alarming and rescuing are necessary, the prevention should firstly, begin with the people’s friendly attitude to the environment
