Compliance is verified through the following test, which is divided into two applicable sections: a) Long-duration voltage impulses that are generally not significantly weakened by traditional inductance/capacitance input filters.

When operating the ballast at the maximum voltage of its nominal range and at an ambient temperature of 25 °C, in conjunction with an appropriate number of lamps, the ballast must withstand the specified voltage spikes listed in Table 1, which are superimposed on the supply voltage and share the same polarity.

A circuit designed for generating and applying long-duration pulses is illustrated in Figure G.2 of IEC 61347-1 Additionally, short-duration voltage pulses can typically be attenuated by conventional input filters that utilize inductance and capacitance.

When operating the ballast at the maximum voltage of its nominal range and at an ambient temperature of 25 °C, in conjunction with an appropriate number of lamps, the ballast must withstand the specified voltage spikes listed in Table 2, which are superimposed on the supply voltage and share the same polarity.

Adapted circuits for measuring pulse energy and for generating and applying short-duration pulses are illustrated in Figure G.1 of IEC 61347-1 and Figure 1 of this standard.

The ballast shall withstand without failure any pulses originating from the power source.

Compliance is evaluated through a two-part test, both sections of which are relevant The first section involves long-duration pulse voltages that are typically not significantly reduced by standard inductor/capacitor input filters.

When operating at the maximum rated voltage and with the correct number of lamps in an ambient temperature of 25 °C, the ballast must endure the specified number of pulse voltages, as outlined in table 1, superimposed with the same polarity on the supply voltage, without experiencing any failures.

A circuit designed for generating and applying long-duration pulses is illustrated in figure G.2 of IEC 61347-1 Additionally, short-duration pulse voltages are typically subject to attenuation by standard inductor/capacitor input filters.

At the maximum rated voltage and with the correct number of lamps in an ambient temperature of 25 °C, the ballast must endure the specified number of pulse voltages, as outlined in table 2, applied with the same polarity on the supply voltage without experiencing any failures.

NOTE Suitable circuits for measuring pulse power and for producing and applying short-duration pulses are shown in figure G.1 of IEC 61347-1 and in figure 1 of this standard.

Under abnormal conditions, a functioning regime is characterized by one or more of the following scenarios: a) the lamp or one of the lamps is not inserted; b) the lamp fails to ignite due to a broken cathode; c) the lamp does not ignite even though the cathode circuits are intact (lamp deactivated); d) the lamp operates, but one of its cathodes is deactivated or broken (rectifying effect).

Each of the abnormal conditions mentioned must be applied, with the ballast operating for 1 hour according to the manufacturer's instructions (including cooling elements if specified), at the upper limit of the temperature range for which the ballast was designed.

In the experiment simulating operation with a deactivated lamp, a resistor must replace each cathode The resistance value should be derived from the nominal operating current of the lamp, as specified in the appropriate lamp characteristic sheets of IEC 60081 and IEC 60901, and incorporated into the following equation: × Ω.

To test the rectifier effect on a DC-powered electronic ballast, the circuit shown in Figure 2 should be utilized The lamp must be connected to the midpoint of the appropriate equivalent resistances The rectifier's polarity should be set to create the most unfavorable operating conditions If necessary, the lamp should be ignited using a suitable ignition device Additionally, polarity inversion should be considered.

Ballasts designed to operate on voltage sources that may be subjected to transients and surges must be powered for 1 hour under a reverse polarity voltage equal to the maximum value of their rated voltage range, using one or more suitable lamps.

The ballast shall not impair safety when operated under abnormal conditions at the maximum value of the rated voltage range.

Abnormal working conditions occur when certain issues arise with lamps, including situations where a lamp is not inserted, a lamp fails to start due to a broken cathode, a lamp remains inactive despite intact cathode circuits, or a lamp operates while one of its cathodes is deactivated or damaged, leading to a rectifying effect.

Compliance is checked by the following test.
