4.4 Requirements on drives for spreading machines
4.4.1 Drive by hydraulic unit of carrier vehicle
For this mode of drive EN 15431 applies
4.4.2 Drive by hinged wheel and carrier vehicle wheel-hub drive
Stationary emptying system shall be ensured by internal or external device allowing to drive the spreader with carrier vehicle stationary All the functions shall be possible as in driving operations
4.5 Design requirements
4.5.1 Spreading device
The whole of the spreading device shall be designed to avoid congestion of agents during normal operation
In traffic areas (excluding airport runways and taxiway) the highest point of spreading agents trajectory (the visible main flow) shall be no more than 600 mm from ground (see Figure 2)
Trang 1311
Figure 2 — Spreading device
Ground clearance between spreading disc and road surface, with fully loaded hopper, shall be minimum
300 mm (see Figure 2)
The spreading device shall be designed to enable
a) the connection of a trailer by the carrier vehicle, without use of the spreader;
b) stationary emptying
The spreader shall allow to collect spreading agent directly from the conveyor and not through disc for dosage tests operations (see Annex A)
4.5.2 Equipment for spreading agent pre-wetted
A 2-inch thread shall be available for fast coupling connection for filling liquid thawing media tanks accessible from ground
When the spreader is equipped with an automatic system able to shut off the external filling pump when the tanks are full, the connection shall respect the diagram shown in Annex B
There shall be a level indicator legible from the filling operations (readable scale with division of at least one tenth of the maximum tank volume) Design of tank(s) and feeding pipes shall permit a filling performance of
5 min to fill complete the tanks or at least 500 l/min
A warning alarm shall be activated on the control box when the minimum brine level is reached
Emptying of tanks and feeding pipes shall be ensured by a valve operating from the ground
Liquid overflowing shall be avoided to prevent bursting of tank and corrosion of the vehicle
4.5.3 Stationary emptying
There shall be a suitable means provided to empty the hopper when spreader is stationary not through spreading disc The time to empty the full hopper shall be no more than 15 min or at least 350 kg/min for big volume spreaders

4.6.3 Control related spreading
The setting of spreading dosage, spreading width, and spreading track asymmetry shall be independent from driving speed
The speed signal shall be according to EN 15431
It shall be possible to simulate the speed at least from 10 km/h to 60 km/h, with steps of maximum 5 km/h, adjustable from control box The driver shall be able only to set speed related or simulated speed This function allows the use of the spreading machine independently from the carrier vehicle
4.6.4 Adjustment steps
It shall be possible to change the adjustment step for spreading dosage on the control box with minimum increment of 1 g/m²
It shall be possible to set the adjustment step for spreading width and track in steps of at least 0,5 m
When using pre-wetted salt, the setting of spreading dosage shown shall be in relation to the quantity of solid agent, and shall be adjustable between the three systems (see Annex C)
