Trang 1GRAMMAR STAGE MEMORISATION
Compiled by Hannah Wilson
Why this file exists
This file was put together as we use the “pick up and go” approach to
homeschooling on a daily basis and as there was nothing to pick up for memory work, we just did not “go” I hope that it is useful to you too
I do not envisage my children memorizing everything in these lists and we will probably add to the list as we go along
We will only commit history, geography and science facts to memory once we have studied the topic using living books Maths, Grammar and Latin
memorization will be added as it comes up in the curriculum
How to memorize
To start memorizing, read the entire passage through two or three times per day until everyone can recite it together (we have our memory work up on the wall
at the dining table, schoolroom and above the bath)
How to organize your memory work
At http://simplycharlottemason.com/timesavers/memorysys/ the authors describe
an easy system for memorization and organizing scripture which can be used for all memory work

The Year
Betty Jones
January, the sun shines bright,
The stars twinkle into the night
February, so warm aglow,
While summer breezes begin to blow
March comes marching merrily,
Over land and over sea
April showers begin to stir,
The plants and animals, the waters pure
May will start to bring the cold,
From the South Pole Winter bold
June brings rain and winds so strong,
Windy, rainy, all day long
July looks out upon the earth,
Seeds below await new birth
August turns the tide of weather,
It seems now to be getting better
September springs alive with joy,
Making happy each girl and boy
October likes to breathe and blow,
All the coloured flowers grow
November days will bring more sun,
While over fields the children run
December laughs with warmth of heart,
Making way for New Years start
Trang 6The Months
Anonymous
Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November;
February has twenty-eight alone
All the rest have thirty-one,
Excepting leap-year that's the time
When February's days are twenty-nine

3.1 The Lord’s prayer
Matthew 6:9–13
Our Father, who art in heaven;
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil
Trang 8For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
• Mark 10:14
Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom
of God belongs to such as these

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows
Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
Trang 11A psalm For giving thanks

Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them saying:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you

Jesus the Way to the Father
"Do not let your hearts be troubled Trust in God; trust also in me
In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you I am going there to prepare a place for you
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to
be with me that you also may be where I am
You know the way to the place where I am going."
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life No one comes to the Father except through me."

3.3 The Beginning
• Genesis 1 :1-5
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light
God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness
God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day
Trang 21• Genesis 1:31
God saw all that He had made, and it was very good And there was evening and there was morning – the sixth day

1 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of
the land of slavery "You shall have no other gods before me
"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love
me and keep my commandments
2 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for
the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name
3 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy Six days
you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a
Sabbath to the LORD your God On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates For
in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy
4 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live
long in the land the LORD your God is giving you
5 "You shall not murder
6 "You shall not commit adultery
7 "You shall not steal
8 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor
9 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house
10 You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his
manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

2 Before no idol bend your knee
3 Take not the name of God in vain;
4 Dare not the Sabbath day profane
5 Give both your parents honor due;
6 Take heed that you no murder do
7 Abstain from words and deeds unclean;
8 Steal not, though you be poor and mean
9 Tell not a willful lie, nor love it;
10 What is your neighbor's do not covet
3.13 The 12 Tribes of Israel
3.14 The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting Amen
Trang 283.15 The Love Chapter
1 Corinthians 13
If I speak in the languages of men and of angels, but have not love, I
am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am
nothing If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,but have not love, I gain nothing
Love is patient, love is kind It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres
Love never fails But where there are prophecies, they will cease;
where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is
knowledge, it will pass away For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like
a child When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known And now these three remain: faith, hope and love But the greatest of these is love

A-sailing on the sea
And, oh, but it was laden
With pretty things for thee
There were comfits in the cabin,
And apples in the hold;
The sails were made of silk
And the masts were all of gold
The four-and-twenty sailors
That stood between the decks,
Were four-and-twenty white mice
With chains about their necks
The captain was a duck
With a packet on his back,
The captain said, "Quack! Quack!"
To market, to market, to buy a fat pig,
Home again, home again, jiggety jig
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog,
Home again, home again, jiggety jog
Jack and Jill
Went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down
And broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after
Up Jack got
And home did trot
As fast as he could caper
Went to bed
And plastered his head
With vinegar and brown paper

Jack jumped high
Jack jumped low
Jack jumped over
and burned his toe
Jack Sprat could eat no fat,
His wife could eat no lean,
And so betwixt the two of them
They licked the platter clean
Ladybug! Ladybug!
Fly away home
Your house is on fire
And your children all gone
All except one,
And that's Ann,
For she has crept under
The frying pan
The Lion and the Unicorn
Were fighting for the crown;
The Lion beat the Unicorn
All about the town
Some gave them white bread
And some gave them brown;
Some gave them plum cake
And drummed them out of town!

Went to the cupboard
To fetch her poor dog a bone;
But when she came there
The cupboard was bare,
And so the poor dog had none
She took a clean dish
To get him some tripe;
But when she came back
He was smoking a pipe
She went to the grocer's
To buy him some fruit;
But when she came back
He was playing the flute
She went to the baker's
To buy him some bread;
But when she came back
The poor dog was dead
She went to the undertaker's
To buy him a coffin;
But when she came back
The poor dog was laughing
She went to the hatter's
To buy him a hat;
But when she came back
He was feeding the cat
The dame made a curtsey,
The dog made a bow;
The dame said, "Your servant."
The dog said, "Bow wow!"
On top of spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
I lost my poor meatball
When somebody sneezed
It rolled off the table
And onto the floor,
And then my poor meatball
Rolled right out the door!
It rolled in a garden
And under a bush
Now my poor meatball
Was nothing but mush
Trang 38The mush was as tasty
As tasty could be
Early next summer
It grew into a tree
The tree was all covered
With beautiful moss
It grew lovely meatballs
In a tomato sauce
So if you like spaghetti
All covered with cheese
Hold on to your meatballs
And DON'T EVER SNEEZE!

Sukey, take it off again,
Sukey, take it off again,
Sukey, take it off again,
They've all gone away
Blow the fire and make the toast,
Put the muffins on to roast,
Blow the fire and make the toast,
We'll all have tea
Upstairs, downstairs, upon my lady's window,
There I saw a cup of sack and a race of ginger,
Apples at the fire and nuts to crack,
And a little boy in the cream pot up to his neck
The Queen of Hearts,
She made some tarts
All on a summer's day
The Knave of Hearts,
He stole the tarts
And took them clean away
The King of Hearts,
Called for the tarts
And beat the Knave full sore
The Knave of Hearts,
Brought back the tarts
And vowed he'd steal no more
Rub-a-dub-dub
Three men in a tub,
And how do you think they got there?
The butcher, the baker, the candlestick-maker
They all jumped out of a rotten potato!
'Twas enough to make a fish stare
